The cam won’t come out until oil pump is out and the valves and lifters are out. Keep going Jeff. You’re doing just fine.

Those that look strange were just stuck. Many different configurations on the valves that I'll document. Oil pump is out too, was just being too gentle. I should keep my Russian wrench closer to hand. The block is stripped, maybe one or two things to finish up. Funny thing is, I'm trying to educate myself using the manual TM9-803 but this here Willeeez motor isn't In it!
Transmission is next, then when I'm feeling spry I'll get the transfer case up off the ground. I will gather up some pics and post em

Did you screw the adjusters out, so you could pound the stuck valves out or what? Usually you never take them out unless you are replacing them. Just wondering. Oilly

Oilly, Yes you're exactly right. I've removed all the engine components - despite not knowing whether I'll rebuild this block, buy a new one or sell this to recoup some beans. Moose was nice enough to make me an offer on the jeep and trailer yesterday to help offset the cost ... OH WAIT

Ya know what...ill still buy the jeep at yesterday's offer price and you can keep your engine.
There. Think about it for 48 hours.

Jeff. I have a block. It’s probably a late ’45. It has the boss on the side, but it is blank. There is a “CJ2A-XXXXX” serial number on the water pump boss. It has helicoils in nearly all of the stud holes. It does not have a head. It is, I was told, complete inside. It has not been tested. It was given to me for free. Get yours checked out. Then get in touch with me.

Scout, thanks man I appreciate that. Things on hold for a bit. Seems something twice the price for a jeep motor are going in today, AC shat and in the Lowlands that is no good.

That is why I work in the Jeep world. I couldn’t afford it any other way. I run a basically non-profit operation, if you know what I mean. The offer will remain on the table until you indicate one way or the other.

Buy a winder unit for you and the missus and a box fan for the midgets..... Builds character! (Don't worry....My wife wouldn't go for it either....)

Jeffers...before you remove the engine from the back of your minivan, get your wife to video the process. This kind of event is exactly the stuff that goes viral across the Internet.

Hey Y'all watch this ... Ha. In truth I got it out and on the dolly just fine. No broken bones, windows or anything else. NOW is when you can laugh - I thought I'd be able to slap this hog in the hole and drive away. I'm such a boob-I'll have twice the parts and still zero miles. Got to help a friend in need though, so the day's work was worth it. Should have broken the rules and driven down the space coast for that running Jobbie... Looks like I'll be in the dummy seat come 5/28, if anyone even lets me ride along.

I am working on a vid of our adventures today. I had a great time. You will get perhaps a good motor out of that. Lots of goodies as well. The carb set up makes me laugh. Scout will too. Shoot a pic .

So I woke up from a dream this morning - for some reason I was dreaming my jeep was missing an engine. Weird, eh? Lo and behold before 0400 I had to satisfy my curiosity. The engine is in fact missing, and there's a half-disassembled Smurfmotor sitting next to it. WTF! Not good, however it's better than it could be because Bo is always threatening to save my jeep from me, so I was happy to see her still sitting there at least. I patiently worked like a good boy from 0530 til the machine shop opened and called to get the skinny. HEAD: original Ford head, cracked in 3rd chamber. BLOCK: small cracks spanning waterjacket can be pinned, BUT #3 and #4 cylinders have tapered walls, like rings blew. One solution is to bore to .080 over. Not a good option, from what I've read. Machine shop can sleeve, $150 per hole. YOWZA FLYWHEEL: can be resurfaced $50 SMURF BLOCK: cracks between #1-2 AND #3-4 (Anyone need a boat anchor?) SMURF BLOCK VALVES: unknown at this time SMURF HEAD: unknown, will get it checked (it's postwar of course, and not <<"GASP">> F-marked)
So, apparently what I have going for me is a good crank, camshaft and two working oil pumps. Might even be able to salvage pistons. Wheee. Looks like a trip northwardish to Scout's in NC and Zooke's in VA to check out some blocks is in my future, if they're still available. Who's up for a Lowlander field trip? Guys, I will be contacting you via PM.
