Your front brake line looks like the chain hoist caught it. Ever figure out the metal shavings source? Do you have the end that broke off the carb base? Possibly braze it back on and save it? Jeep looks to be in decent shape. Oilly

I know the feeling. Just as with my first love of careers, flying helicopters, I have to work in the business in order to afford it.

Jeep looks to be in decent shape. Oilly Oh yeah that brake line was put in like that because it was the shortest piece of its size at the place at the time. One of those "I'll get back to that" things that I never got back to! I think all of the brake lines were replaced, but that's the only one I gooned out. BTW the engine is still comfy in the jeep - I don't have the big tools required for any job. [ Ten points for best zinger ] I am running on the assumption that the source of the metal shavings is only going to be found once the engine is ganked and fully stripped. The walls of the cylinders do not appear to be scratched up, so even though that doesn't mean that the rings are good, I still think BoBoTuRo is right in his diagnosis that the bearings (or something!) are shredded up. I am still unable to turn the handcrank at all. Part of me wants to pull the tub and fix the sky-high ass end, misalignment of the rear of the tub, and all other deficiencies with this beast, but the other part of me knows I'd have to go to hospital to remove my wife's garden boot from me innards! We can't all have gleaming brass fixtures and Eiderdown-filled, hand-sewn bumrests, though. That would make this a very strange club indeed! I will likely (eventually) pay less for this rebuild than Ol Haines will have paid in Brasso.

Drop the oil pan and look up. Also, I think it was rick that said to run a magnet through the oil, too, to see if those shavings or bigger pieces show up.
Forget about your tub at the moment. Don't be like HG and do the glamour fixes right now. Besides, I think I already told why your tub is jacked up. If I remember correctly, I'm leaning towards the theory that jack rebuilt a significant portion of the rear...especially in the floor...and didn't get the angles right. I think your buddy Steve had a different opinion, but that's what I'm sticking to. Everything else is connected to the frame (shocks, springs) but your tub can't reach the frame.
Hey, just say "when" and I'll bring my big tool over there. Minds are in the gutters, boys. The big tool is HG. lol.
Seriously, I'll gladly bring you my hoist and engine stand. Sarah and the kids are out of town this weekend. I'm working both days, but we can still get something accomplished.
I think you need to remove your engine, strip it down, take the necessary parts to Simmons machine and get a diagnosis from them. If the engine is savable, it might be cheaper to have them work it than buying another one.

Sounds like BoBo might have you fixed up! Baching it for the weekend and jeep work to boot, a helleva plan! I wish I had some words of wisdom for you, but as of the drive home this morning, I have some potentially serious Willis issues of my own...

Alright Professor...open up a new thread and spill your beans. After all of the Texas flooding, are you converting the Willys into a GPA?
Knock on wood, I'm ready to be on the jeep knowledge giving end rather than the receiving side.

Awfully quiet over there this weekend. I never heard a peep out of this guy. The model show must've gotten out of control!

The password for the Photobucket site is HGCOORS, and I only did because I could. The model show was good. Took too much as usual, but Sarge was there with his Legion of Honor medal. I'm totally not eeeven going to try to pull the motor unsupervised. Moosey had a golf tournament at the weekend, plus he's got all the hoists and lifty jack things that are required to do it. My poor little jeep is sad, so I didn't mess with her too much. I did get into some metal cutting and stone work though, but nothing jeepy.

For sure some issues but I would stay the course with what you have. Keep at it. You won't regret it.

I should be able to wrench on the wench today some, I hope. Next goal is removal of the transfer case and transmission for assessment and overhaul if necessary. Also need to check out the carb and the exhaust manifold - I think some Hubba Bubba will fix that right up. I really wish I knew about the HG Forum back when I was still getting familiar with this bastard - total blooper reel learning how things work. Some things never change.
Gots to talk to Moosey about schedules. I have a few days off coming up (wife's surgery) so maybe then I can really get dirty unless Captainess Hook needs something. Mebbe she'll get some good meds and just loll about and not need me! LOL. If anyone needs any stripping done, let me know. I am definitely making the reverse of progress on this thing, I might as well be of help to someone.

Jeff , describe how the transmission shifted etc. before. Might give clues as to what you need to be aware of. I've been crucified, tortured, baptised, and just plain smacked by a T84 WW2 Jeep transmission. Moosey too. We are the go to guys now. Now if you enjoy removing it again, then don't listen to us-----

Roger that, I hear ya. Used to have weird shifting issues, but those rectified. Not sure what, if anything, I did. Also, before the gasket incident, I only really had leaking issues, I think from the front main oilseal, maybe from one of the gaskets. Whenever too much leaked out, I just filled it since I wanted to drive her. Now that I am having to pull the engine, I just figured I would do the whole shebang in hopes to get all the gaskets and seals ship-shape.. You don't have to worry about me not asking and not listening to you guys - "All I have to fear is me and myself".

Sounds like classic oil transfer from the transfercase into the transmission. It needs the rear sealed bearing , and front one sided sealed bearing. Splines at the rear get gooped also upon assembly. Oilly

Perhaps I am missing something here. We are talking about T84 transmissions, when this Bastage has destroyed his motor? I don't want to be a Debbie Downer or anything, but Jeffers has MILES TO GO BEFORE HE JEEPS..... Miles..... That's Robert Frost Darlin'
Seems ole Haines is an educated man... Now I really hate him!

It's simple really. I've got to disconnect the transmission to pull the engine, unless I'm really not understanding things. While the engine is out I reckoned I'd pop everything else open for a peek. And while I'd love to take credit for busting it, i think it wasn't solely me.

There are things that must be done to disconnect the engine other than just unbolt it. Things like the clutch cross shaft, and clutch fork removal. That depends on taking or leaving the bell housing with the engine. Lots to learn. Since HG is now a expert, I think he should come down or up, or sideways, to advise you. Trailer is just too lame a job now that he has the Jeep done. Your wife will be impressed------
