As a matter of fact, yes.
Whitey: Hood...prepped and ready for paint. Fenders...prepped and ready for paint Windshield...sanded. Still needs a bit of work. Tub...grounded welds on underside. Hubs...cleaned, lubed, mounted.
In addition to above work I've put substantial time toward two other Willys projects.
2A Wheels... blasted, primed, pits filled and sanded, primed and ready for paint. Windshield...blasted, holes welded, new skin purchased and ready for installation. Welded new lollipop brackets in place. Substantial rebuild effort put forth on inner windshield frame.
ODie. Wheels...blasted, primed, painted, tires removed from old wheels and remounted to new wheels. Installed on Willys. Transmission...new sealed bearing. Transfer...new intermediate shaft. Speedy selves on all yokes and companion flange. New seals. New clutch, throw bearing, rear main seal...X4 New rings, cylinder honing, and head seal. Two-- week long trail rides to exotic places. Two days of cleaning and paint chip touch up after each trip.
So, again, yes. Much Willys work... all since my last update in May.
Tim

I know what you're thinking... Whoop-tee-do...an air cleaner. This isn't flashy like all the brass being thrown around on other projects, but it gave me a chance to re-engage my project. We have small windows of nice weather here during the winter. It got up to the mid 50s so I cleaned, blasted, primed and painted this cool old Oaks air cleaner. This is the correct cleaner for an early CJ3A. If you don't know, there were only 3,654 CJ3As made before Whitey. Before... After...

I like it. I looks very nice. Great Work as always. Now, if you just had some brass nuts to mount it with...

Good to see some forward progress on Whitey. Looks great.
Do you know when the change was made from the Oakes cleaners to the Donaldson ones? I could probably crack open BobW's book for an answer but my guess is you already know.

Good question.
I did study Bob's book on this subject. It was a while ago, but it went something like this...
Like many things during the 2A to 3A transition, there isn't a definitive answer. In fact, many late 2As started to use the Donaldson, but then the late style Oaks shows up early in 3A production...only to switch back to the Donaldson. This is true regarding the radiator style too. There was a back and forth switch from the bottom mount to side mount styles.
So, I felt fairly confident that this cleaner style is appropriate for Whitey. I also like it because you can take out the filament to clean it. No need to dunk the whole damn thing in solvent.

Wow Tim, if you really get to work on Whitey, you could have it ready to bring up to the BCTR (British Columbia Trail Rides) July 17th to the 24th.! Keep up the good work! Chuck

Tim, retire, quit your job, and get rich working on Jeeps like us! Actually, We can't afford to work on valuable stuff, it costs more than it's worth now. LOL. I do like my Jeeps. Looking forward to June. July is Binthere, August might be Bruce W's again, then Sept. is FCT. I really enjoy the Jeep brotherhood. None better. Oilly

Don't think there's no progress-big mistake. Hawk kicks ass just doesn't spend valuable time fartin around forums.

Rick speaks the truth. A brilliant man, if there ever was one.
Rachel had foot surgery a month ago. Because of this, my duties have doubled around the house. This, plus an occasional blizzard, has cut into my progress a bit, but I am working on Whitey. Just got done with a 5 hours stint out in the garage.
It's tub work. Tedious. Monotonous. Dusty. Boring. And seemingly endless. I haven't posted about it because you all have seen this kind of stuff a hundred times over. I am getting close though. I have picked out a new color and will be ordering paint this weekend. It's a 1950 Willys Jeepster color. Nassau Cream.

Sorry to hear about Rachel's Foot. That's no fun. You are 100 percent correct about tub work. I do not believe I will ever do that again. Dusty and dirty..... No doubt. Even trying to be clean in the garage there are still grinding remnants all over the joint here.

Just a quick update... Final color is a 1965 Ford Mustang Phoenician Yellow. (Purchased from TCP Glogal) UPS lost my paint...that was first ordered on April 26th. Finally received the replacement order on Friday May 27th. IMHO, it's too shiny for an old Willys. I knew this would be a possibility so I will be spraying a Satin Clear over the yellow. This paint finish is becoming far too complicated for a simple 3A Thrasher. Constructed my upgraded/up-sized paint booth. If all goes as planned, I will have a yellow Willys very soon...
