Did a small final patch on the transmission tunnel. Also did a little work on the back panel. Didn't do what I wanted it to and don't want to spend too much time so I will skim coat it with bondo. And on to the tool indents. That is going to take a bit of work and the final small patch forward of the tool indents to finish yet too.

This evening I worked on the tool indents. I tried a couple of ways that were just not going to work and then I fell upon this way that was much easier. Wished I'd have thought of it a few pieces of sheet metal earlier. Marking out the replacement sheet for the indent cutouts. Indents were already made and bent for insert and welding. Axe indent inserted and welded in. Both axe and shovel indent welds ground down ans smoothed out.

Indent panel next to one of the bad panels from one of the Military tubs I have. Panel welded in and cleaned up. I think it will pass.

Thanks. It may seem strange but I am using my Woodworking skills taught by my Dad in helping me with the project.

Today I did some blasting on the tub. Now that's a lot of tedious work. I did this to find the holes and areas that need to be welded before I do the body prep before paint.

Still working on it daily. Filling a multitude of holes in the tub from a rollbar to fender skirts to who know what else. I have never seen so many holes in a Jeep or any other vehicle for that matter. Tedious work this is.

I feel knighted! And humbled!
All this knowledge that I am getting off of this build will go into my GPW/MB. This tub sure makes my GPW one look very, very good. The GPW has rust but no where near the dents this tub has.

Patched some more holes today and still a lot left to go. Also out some bolts in four holes that are in the exact spot I need them for the rear seat retaining hooks found on the MB and GPW. How they are on the DJ/Surrey tub I do not know. The Seat retaining hook on the GPW. Holes in my DJ/Surrey tub. Piece cut out, bolts welded to plate and plate welded back in. Ground down and ready for paint when I get to that part.

Been working on the most nearly every day. Most filling holes of which there were far to many to even count. I didn't post this as it would have just been too boring as it was for me to do. I did mount rear seat pivot bracket and support. I bolted them in instead of riveting them in as the factory did. But I did weld the support at the bottom as factory did. The seat was one I purchased for my GPW but I found out is was for an M38 so this actually worked out in my favor as I am making a DJ into a Military Clone.

The last of two patch panels I had to do today. This is filling the drain hole of the DJ/CJ tub and making it look like a Military Tub.

Now that's what I love. I learned something new today..WW2 Jeeps, no drain holes. Funny the CJ guys make great efforts to retain these. That is cool.

Sir Eric..also, when you are filling holes, what method sre you using. I just bought a copper spoon for this purpose.

I got a copper spoon from Harbor Freight. I use it when I can but when welding holes that I cannot use the spoon on, I walk the weld from one side of the hole to the other. You cannot do this with the trigger pulled constantly but pull it in bursts for lack of a better word.

Can't wait to follow your work. Maybe I can learn a few things from great HG! Not great my friend, just driven like yourself. I will share a secret with you. My welding skills are very limited. I took three years of metal shop in high school..25 years ago. I watch you and Hawkridge, to try and make sense of it all. In fact when I start the tub, I will probably be PMing the hell out of you both. Again, I am honored that you share here.

As my parents taught me, you can do anything you put your mind to. They never stopped me from trying to do something and encouraged me to try anything. Great Parents. Mom is still here but I do miss my Dad dearly. Though he is with me in everything I do because he taught me the will to do so.
I will be here for anything you need HG. Just let me know how I may help. Just PM me sometime for my PH #.

Thought that was kinda funny. It happens to me at times. Sometimes my phone kicks me off and I have to log back on on it.
