Unfortunately the repops are not correctly machined for the most part. Or so I am told. Confirmed. They are garbage. You will need to drill a perfectly good exhaust manifold to compensate for an incorrectly drilled intake manifold. Glad I have an original. Heard too many bad stories about repops.

Busy day today. First off this morning I had to mow about 2 1/2 acres plus weed eat. Then off to the garage to work on the motor. I got the the valves adjusted, front timing cover and motor mount plate cleaned and resealed. While working on the motor it started raining and Murphy decided I needed some help. I push the jeep out to have more room in the garage because of the other frame and tub takes up so much room. Well it started to rain and I had to get the jeep pushed in by hand. I moved things out of the way or so I thought. When pushing in the jeep I ran over the oil pickup and crushed it. I do have another but it needs some work. The rain stopped so the jeep went back outside and on to work on the motor again. Valve cover on and sealed, motor cleaned and prepped for primer and head cleaned as well and set on motor. Nice primer paint on. While admiring what I just finished today I looked for the other oil pickup and found it. I also was looking at the what I needed to do to mount the motor in Short Round and was looking to see if I would put the motor mounts on the engine first for install. Then I noticed that the mounting plate in the Supersonic is for a 3A and the driver motor mount is wrong. I will have to cut out the one in Short Round and put the spare motor mount I got further towards the firewall on the frame. MURPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't look like I will be going to the car show next Saturday.

Or you could change out front motor plates. You have to pull the cam gear off which can be risky. A new timing cover gasket too. Short Round has a 3A type frame? Solution to all of this is to buy more Jeeps so One is always up and running. I'm sure your wife would aggree! Oilly

I actually took the timing cover and plate off of this engine to put new gaskets one. It was leaking especially bad on the front crank seal. The cam had moved and I hadn't checked it first when I put the gear back on and the crank would stop dead when I turned it either way. So I just reset to the cam timing marks and all is copacetic now.
It will be easier to cut the old motor mount off and put the new one one. The old one is a Bubba one anyway. I had already replaced the other Bubba one.

Got the green on today. And...looks like with one adapter for 2A to 3A on the motor mount I can set the engine maybe tomorrow night. I will work on getting the oil pan cleaned and painted tonight for install.

Maybe a little possessed. Done for the night. Tomorrow is another day. Oil pan on, water pump on and they got painted. The adapter for the one side is going to be a little more than I figured but can be done.

That's one of them Army Jeep Motors! Close. My 46 2A motor that ran great but was sitting in the other side of the shop. I didn't use it because I got the Supersonic running that was already in the frame.

Is that 638632 casting # / Oval un stamped pad? Change the head to a MB and you have a replacement WW2 engine my friend. Very cool.

Early 2A's used the same head. Says Willys and Jeep on it and is smooth also. I always look to see if they drilled the rear of the head for a heater when thinking MB application. You don't want it drilled. All my extras are ribbed. I had a nice MB one with a large crack. Almost in half!!!!! You can always change it later. Oilly

Someone drilled my GPW head for a heater but...it is a GPW head. With a real nice "F" on it.

Got the studs in and the manifold on with the non polished "au natural" brass nuts from Sir Garage. I also got the PCV valve on. That was bugger as I had to drill out the plug. I would not come out for anything and amazingly the taper stayed. Got the carb on as well as the linkage with the linkage return spring bracket behind the center manifold stud. Sure looks better than what I had before.

Further tonight lots of attachments added. Kept the Studebaker spin on oil filter attachment. Need to put the fuel pump on yet. Did not torque the head till it's in the jeep. Need to get a lift plate to put it in the jeep. Then I will torque it down. Will paint the fan blades tomorrow.
