Great pics. Like the GPW next to the C46 and the last one. I was thinking the exact same thing.

You guys are getting "Rock Heads". Differential bragging rights. Ever hear of the story about the guy against the curb on a slanted road with locked diffs who couldn't get away from the curb? They aren't always a good thing. Then there is the pushing the rig in the garage problem. You turn the steering wheel and it acts like you put the brakes on. I know this. You should be concentrating more on your winch, or is it wench?

I think Rudycon has his eyes set on Chinaman's Gulch.
You already have a Studebaker engine! How many more advantages do you need?!!!

Gotta winch. Gotta automatic locker in the back Need a limited slip in the front so I can get up the back hill without hitting the house! Never heard of the story about the guy with lockers stuck against a curb. i've run just about every combo of lockers-limited slips-open diffs except spools in both ends. I downgraded this jeep by removing the rear Lincoln locker when I bought it. Then I got stuck on snow open/open. Put in a lock right in the back. Got stuck less. For the mild, wheels on the ground wheelin' the Willys does, the lsd front should be perfect for snow/mud. Wrapping up with the LSD in the front. Cute little bugger!

That is a cute lil bugger! I got 1 just like him in my D25 front and his big brother in the D44 rear..be sure to put LS additive in your 90GL, you'll hear less funny noises coming from it..

Lee: I had to buy a pair of mostly disassembled, slightly rusty, axles from a CJ part-out in Golden, CO. I kinda needed a knuckle, and the right front axle shafts as spares. The rest is more than I really need and the rear pinion bearing is toast or flat out misisng. Gears look ok. One rear axle shaft has twisted splines = junk.
The axles were under a CJ with a Ford 302 in it. The drain plug on the rear housing is about ground off by rocks. unit was wheeled hard.
The guy has a big brake drum kit, or at least some of it, from these axles that he would sell REALLY cheap. He wanted to giuve them to me, but I have 0 interest in them. Second time that has happened to me actually.
I got the ring gear off last night. the carrier bolts are on really tight. 12 point bolts. Gotta make sure I have the right socket so I can REALLY wail on them. Maybe they are left hand thread?

Powr-Lok Dana 25 won't slip problem
Took the front end of the stude-a-willys apart, moved my ring gear to my powr-lok, bolted it all back together.
test drive time! = Well SHOOT!
The front limited slip is locked up tighter than a spandex saddle on a corn bloat cow. no slip on dirt roads. steers funny of course.
History: It looks like this axle was taken apart, cleaned and painted nicely. The differential was the only thing still in the bare housing and it smells of paint thinner. The rest of the axle parts from the knuckles out appear to have been cleaned, then put in a bucket to rust. How long does that take? 10 years? I don't think the axle was taken apart because the powr-lok had a problem. why would you tear down an axle, paint it, but not pull out the broken diff? and why take the knuckles off just to fix a differential?
Is the clutch pack rusted stuck together? If I drive around some more will it unlock? So far I've only made a trip around the block on dirt roads. Should I put 'er on pavement in 2 high with the hubs locked and see if that frees it up?
Thanks for sharing your input'outlaw' Willys support team. Lee this means you and stuck steering clutches on a caterpillar crawler!

Rudy, I had an HD6 Allis Chalmers crawler that came to me with stuck steering clutches, after several years of tinkering with it, it then went to its new owner with stuck steering clutches, LOL........ If the clutch discs ar bad you may have an issue, as spares are no existent. I have a local who does brake and clutch lining that may be able to help if you need it. Good luck with repairs!.

Ya gotta add limited slip diff additive to your 90wt. You prolly knew that. Lack of additive wouldn't cause your problem from the git-go tho. Hope the clutch packs aren't shot.

Drove 10 miles on the pavement. Hubs locked, 2 high. After 5 miles I stopped at the little white schoolhouses' paved parking lot and drove in circles until I was dizzy. It started out pretty rough, but got better after about 10 circles each way. It is much better, but you still need to hold onto the steering wheel with 2 hands just in case. Hopefully it will loosen up with more use. RickG: Should I be able to feel that I have a limited slip diff in 2h with the hubs locked? I do have LSD additive in the front diff. youtu.be/Z3qcU3OGuHw

Took a second spin. Did more low speed 2h donuts on pavement. I don't think it feels much looser. Maybe a little.
So I took it down to a snowy parking lot, found a iced hill that 2h with the rear locker would just spin on. Click in 4 low and idled right up. Sure it probably would have with the open front too... I tried hard turns in 2h and 4h on the slippery snow. radius is about the same. So it will steer fine on slippery stuff. I should have unlocked the hubs and compared radius there too to get the best idea of how the LSD will affect me on the snow.
Then I backed down between the house and shed in the snow. Almost made it up, but the icy log at the top only let me get 1 up on the flat top. I dug 4 good deep holes and eventually PTO winched up and out. Stuck in my own backyard...again.
I should have unlocked a hub to see if it would still spin 1 front on the ground with 1 wheel in a simulated wheels up no traction situation. Maybe next weekend we'll get fresh snow tomorrow.
Talked to my Dad, who talked to one of his old Jeeper friends. This guy once built a front powr-lok with extra clutches in it. It was way tight for a month he said. Maybe this is Dwight's old powr-lok!?
Meantime, I'm going to order a clutch pack and be ready to rebuild this thing if I have time.

Slipped the Willys out of the shed this morning and took it to the Little White Schoolhouse where we are volunteering with a "Memories of Lost Ski Areas" exhibit. Nice day for a spin! Looks kinda like OilLeaker, Eh?!

Personally, I think the guy looks more like Robin Olds, but what do I know. Nice display, thanks for posting!..... The StudoWillys is looking great as well.

Who's Robin Olds? I've always meant to stop and get this picture. This is the "Civil War Well" at what was then known as "Bradford Junction." (Now Conifer, CO) It was dug in 1861 and 1862. In 1865 there was a post office and the name changed to "Hutchison." The name changed to Conifer in 1894. Hiding behind the trees is the "Yellow Barn." A historic landmark still in use today.

Rudy, Rudy. Rudy!, perhaps one of the most famous F4 Fantom pilots of the Vietnam War, was also a triple ace in the European Theater in WW2. He was based in Tailand (URTAFB), our F105's carried a radar jammer to throw off the NVA SAM missles and the MIG 21's would track the signal and knew they were coming and we're raising hell with the F105's. Robin Olds came up with a plan, they mounted F105 radar jammer on the bomb racks of the F4's to make the NVAF think it was a flight of F105's, it was called Operation Bolo, the plan was a huge success, the NVAF took the bait and after that day no longer had ANY MIG 21's. Do a Wikapedia search, very interesting man!. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Robin_Olds_during_vietnam_war.jpg
