Koenig sold front winch bumpers. My '48 has one with a stamped Koenig name and part number on top. Very rare. My heart jumped a bit when I discovered it. Carl at Walck's said wow that is rare. I've seen a set up for pickups on craigslist. Bumper and all for 1500.00! Is that what you are getting Schimmmster? LOL John

Don't think so john. Mine is just a frame extender that the bumper bolts onto. The bed may be on hold this winter as I do the winch and pto stuff. Look forward to the posts guys.

John, I do not believe the Koehing front winch is that rare, I at one time owned one, I know of another and have seen several.

The rare part I was talking about is the Koenig bumper with built in fairlead rollers. Those are rare! I too know of a couple of winches on pickups. 2-300.00 I think you could buy one. I'm not too keen on extending my pickup front frame and bumper. The front splash pan is deleted too. John

Paul, very cool, I have never seen a crankshaft driven spool winch, other than in adds. Thanks for posting. Lee

hey boys need some help, can't get this damn drive shaft off my winch. its got universal joints at each end but both are held on with at least a allen headed bolt that screws through the clevis into the drive shaft or the shaft of the pro. i got one of them out and the other 3 were stripped out or rusted out but still in there. how do i get the shaft off of the pto box, and the winch once these are out? i can't figure out how to get the u joints out either no clips or caps or anything like that that i can see. thanks.

Schimmmmms, most likely one time use u-joints, and not repairable. You can drill out the setscrew. Removing the shaft may require some heat, but going that route may destroy the seals, but you should replace them anyway. If the joints are bad I would cut them off with a torch. Lee

Lee. They are small Clevis ends with the u joint in between them. I may have to drill out the set screws then pound off the shaft? I will have to replace my seals anyways but that's standard on these willys parts and such.

A couple of points to observe when you install it. Your exhaust will most likely need modification to allow the shaft by it. CJ's had spacer blocks between the frame and rubber axle bumps to keep the differential from coming up and hitting the PTO shaft. Keep the winch disengaged while driving, up front at the lever. If someone bumps the PTO lever in the cab and you are already wound up tight-----------OH Oh. Treat the winch like a loaded gun, it can really hurt you. Loose clothes getting caught in the PTO and tearing your arm off, cable crushing your fingers, or tearing your hand off, cable snapping or coming off while under a hard pull can whip a body in half----------you get the picture. I try to never pull on a vehicle heavier than the one you are driving. A snatch block out and back tied off will double the pull. That's 16,000 pounds!!!!! You can tie off to a tree with a snatch and pull something 90 degrees to your Jeep. The Forest Service takes a dim view of that-------girdling the tree and killing it. They want you to use a strap not a cable or chain. most winches use a shear pin similar to a snow blower. It keeps you from ruining the winch or overpulling on it. Carry extra pins and tools. Imagine getting stuck and you shear the pin before you get out. Never saddle a dead horse. This has to do with the cable clamps that u bolt together. The loose end of the cable has the u bolt against it not the saddle part. Now you should have the right frame of mind. They are a cool accessory. John
