Though it's not officially official, my wife decided WE were interested in moving. I just filled Dopey with tons of carp I had in the garage (reenactor gear- WAY too much) up to the gunnels and threw the new canvas cover on im, tied it down and dragged him to my brother's storage unit. Ol Lucille did pretty good dragging that much weight for the first time, and I didn't even jackknife Dopey once! You've never met me, but you already KNOW that is a major accomplishment. NOW I'm just waiting for space to open up in "El Garagio della Mooseyville" LOL. This whole process is going to suck, but because I am the special kind of idiot who buys stuff because I forgot I have it ... I might have a fire sale if anyone else has an unexplained addiction to WWII canvas and equipment.

Mother nature will not leave me alone. I'm back on the warpath! Running Oilleaker's trapline. Apparently the Vole infestation is nation wide according to pest control guys. These little Meadow Mice make homes in burrows underground. They surface and make runways in your grass that are like trails in the jungle. They eat roots and vegetables and ruin your garden plants and flowers. They are about twice the size of a common mouse. Rounded nose and frontal area, and a short tail. They can have a new litter every 3 weeks. During winter, they do not slow up at all. They love using snow as cover to eat everything. I blew some snow onto a apple tree trunk. When it melted, something had eaten all the bark off the poor thing. Now I know what it was. I've currently got 15 mouse traps set at all times with peanut butter on them. My head count is at 8 in 2 days and rising. I'm not sure if it will even put a dent in them. The pest control guy said buy bait traps. It keeps the poison inside while the Voles go in and eat. As usual, the bait traps are on back order and hard to get . I think I'll tan the hides and make Vole car covers next. Voleskin seat covers? The possibilities are endless. Anyone else on the warpath? Oilly

Professor, I am east of the Mississippi, but a short distance west of one of its tributaries, the St. Croix river. I like the stories of Hue Glass, an early trapper who roamed the hills of leakerland!...... Jeremiah Johnson was a Hollywood rendition of the tales of Liver eating Johnson, look for the book "Crow Killer" written in the 1920's, very interesting!. Lord Grizzly is the story of Hue Glass, another great read!......... Now back to topic, Varmints..... Hides, Meat, lots of possibilities ??. Try a standard victor trap with a walnut tied to the pan, lots of oil in walnuts that the varmints cannot resist.
PS

Finally got the overdrive in the 3B Friday, but it want's to grind a little when you shift to OD! It seems the syncro ring is not doing it's job. They sure appeared to be new rings, so cleaned them up a put them in. Sure does give a different sound to the engine at 55mph though. Gotta like it! Just wondering if the syncro ring will work in shortly though. Any comments welcome!

Mine gives a little scratch once and awhile, run it, see what happens. The F head runs very nice at 55 mph in OD. What's not to like, LOL.

The crank is out...and the condition of the seal had me scratching my head. It looks like it was performing fairly well. It was nicely packed in the channel even though I pulled it in with a Sneaky Pete. The dowels and the RTV sealant also looked good. The amount of fluid left in South Dakota seems to be inexplicable. But then I thought of the first trail repair I've ever had to do.
Some of you were there. I was having oil flowing out my carb. I knew immediately that my PCV must be clogged...and it was. I believe the crank case pressure built up enough to pull oil out of the cross tube that goes from the dip stick tube and into the cross-over tube. Once the PCV was cleaned, this symptom was gone, but I can't imagine that other areas weren't put under the same pressure...like the rear main seal. Still, it looked too good to spot an obvious issue.
So...
I turned my attention to the newly installed sealed bearing at the front of my T-90. We have failure.
The bearing is fine, but my efforts to seal the bearing to the case were futile. Also, a detected leak around one to the screws that hold the oil collector. The top screw. The one that will leak into the bearing retainer cavity. In hindsight, I didn't use nearly enough sealant around the outside diameter of the bearing or the gasket.
Probable Result...
The oil seeped into the bearing cap cavity and had no place to go. I plugged the drain hole as is a fairly standard practice when using a sealed bearing here. The oil eventually seeped through the gasket that had barely any sealant on it. I don't know if heat and pressure in the bearing cap can build up under these circumstances. Maybe some of you genius Willys Dudes can enlighten me.
Bottom line...
I now believe I had a mixture of issues contributing to my embarrassment.
Moving forward...
The tranny issues were fixed last night. I decided to do a ring job while the engine is out. Rings should be here by Friday. No Willys available for the Northern Colorado Run this weekend.
So, do I spend some time with friends in NoCo? Or do I finish my engine? This is tormenting my thoughts at this point.
Tim

An unturned wrench and an engine begging for re-assy is the torment. If it's me I'm finishing my Jeep repairs and heading for the FCT.

Tim, do not listen to the FNG from Idaho, you have 8 weeks till the FCT, that's 40 evenings of putting the motor back together, no sweat. Have Sir Rudy swing by, accept his offer of a weekend of stress free Jeeping with the "Cool Guys", bring your own hammer to whak the fuel pump when needed, LOL....... The engine will wait and you have plenty of time, time spent with friends is very hard to come by, do not waist it!.

No worries, Rick - I'm FNG too, and can barely manage a spanner so that puts you ahead! Hey, so I gotta ask ... my buddy was driving in North Dakota and swears he saw a penguin on the interstate. Any chance that's true?
