I've been repairing my trailer. It seem when you don't latch a Bulldog hitch the latch parts sometimes binds and breaks off. The only fix is to cut and grind the broken hitch and weld on a new one. Then it's fixing the speedometer on the Willys, darn thing just quit. Think it was made by Smith instruments.

I dug stumps all morning . Then hauled them away, then filled the holes in and cleaned roots ect, only 10,000 to go!....... 85 in the shade, 90% humidity, sweating like Detard pulling a GPW up Mt. Princeton with a ful shot of turpentine! Now sitting in my chair watching a movie.......... I love A/C.

Pretty much got the reconditioned Trans and Transfer done today. No pictures as I did not bead blast or paint it. Just a good cleaning. Gotta get one larger socket to put the nut on for the transfer gear. Can't find my old one.

The above effort is to replace a rear main seal. The engine doesn't give any indication that it needs a rebuild. No smoke. Good oil pressure, no head leaks, etc... Although, the thought has crossed my mind. If I do, it won't be back in service for the coming Willys events. I do have the running and assembled 2A out back. I suppose I could get it plated and insured. I'd have to lose the arctic top and dial in a respectable windshield, but that would be fairly easy.

Tim, when you decide to do it, it's a done deal. Admire you very much for your drive. Now, Just how did you get that Jeep looking like you never got it wet or dusty after all that red mud? ?? In other words, how do you go about cleaning it? Seriously. I can't believe what I see? Are you sure these aren't old just finished pictures? And---------that's a solid looking 2A you got. Bring it! Oil

I'll bet "The Hawk" uses some highly classified Teflon paint.

I had a great morning. Hardee's breakfast with 2 of my 3 lads and FOUR WWII veterans, only two of whom I knew before today. To add more excitement to that, I had the honour of riding shotgun as John Batten -at a spry 95- deftly took Lucille for a wee spin. Video didn't work, maybe Moosey can tutor me how to use these techno-doodads. More on that later, if my wife finds me "farting around on the computer instead of packing!" it'll be curtains!!

No, not old photos. I cleaned it on Friday July 3rd.
I generally use that high tech "elbow grease" as ScoutPilot suggests, but I added a new twist. I used a technique offered by the one and only...Leaker.
I put it up high on jack stands, then blasted it clean.
I clean and scrub. Wait until it drys, then clean it again. Wait. Clean. Wait, and so on, until no dirt or residue remains. I let it dry so I can see the residue that might still remain. Then I do a final wipe down with the micro fiber cloth and a water spray.
Overall time and effort...6 1/2 hours.
I'll admit that prior to these photos, I cleaned areas that are normally inaccessible once I got the engine and grill out of the way.
Firewall behind engine, top of round cross tube, etc...
Tim

Tim, One thing you don't want to use is Mr. Clean's magic eraser!! How do I know? Just ask my wife. She used one to take some minute tar spots off her Buick!! Cost her over $400.00 to have her car detailed after that episode!! Pretty clean Tim, almost clean enough to eat off of. If I kept mine that clean, everybody would say tha I never drive it. But I do know you drive yours cause I binthere!!

6 1/2 hours to clean it. I'd believe that. Oh, do not wash your vehicles while on your floor jack. The poor jack does indeed get water in it and in a year or so, it's ruined. Ask me how I know that one! Use jack stands as Sir hawky said. Mr. hawky, if you don't get a Jeep done for Bruce's run, you can ride along in Bugsey. I'd enjoy your company since I hardly got time to BS while you were in the Black Hills. It sucks to be the leader sometimes. As a mmatter of fact, All my friends here would sure be welcome to sit at my camp! Oilly

Leaker, The jack stand idea is genius. I did get quite wet during the process, but the day was hot, so it felt good. I think I'll add goggles for the next round. Regarding the empty seat...Thanks! This may be an option. As is true for most of us, I like to drive'em, but riding shotgun can work too. Tim
