Here is what I have to say .... Last year when I was granted the gift of attending by Sir Hawkridge and M38mike . It was one of the most memorable events in my entire life . I met some of my Internet Heros, and made some forever friends . To those blessed with the time to attend this year. Enjoy the time you have with the people around you. Forget about the posts , the I got to's , and the grind if daily life . It will be there when you get back , and you will not probably even be missed. I look forward to hearing of the tables , who broke down. , who came to the rescue. . Not about the vehicle my friends.....the People!

Everything ready? no way. Not even 50%!
I FINALLY got a chance to turn wrenches on my bucket today...AFTER an inlaw's visit this morning, I crammed in a good hour, then after a presentation on gunslingers and moonshiners in my county, a trip down to 6,000 feet for deadbolts, installed them, THEN worked on the Willys from 5-9.
I wanted to check the fluids, but I didn't get that far. While under the jeep I finally found that round T-case mount. A chunk of dirt must have fallen off! It was wasted, so I tried to replace it...Next thing I know I have the crossmember and skidplate down, the center mount replaced, and after dinner I figured out the lower cup was still in the crossmember. I DO have the right parts after all. Put it together, scraped a shoebox full of dirt and goo off of the t-case/transmission. This is by far the dirtiest machine I've worked on in my life!
Maybe tomorrow night I'll get those fluids checked out. I started looking for things too. 2 shopping days until I hook up (for the first time).
I'm taking over the garage for the next 2-3 nights for willys panic work.
You guys can stop by, but I'll likely be at work. (0600-1800 or so M-T) Lin should be here. If you do stop by, can you get my rig trail ready? I'll leave a list on the windshield!
Happy trails!
Remember, I can bring parts from Denver since I'm coming in late.

Oh man, I've been looking at past photos and FCT writeups. I'm afraid my rig might be a "static display." It will certainly be in the roughest shape compared to the fine machines in the photos. I fear my cooling system will not be up to the task of highway runs to the trailhead. If I can't stay cool on the highway, I'm pretty sure I have no hope of staying cool on the trail. I pinned my hopes on the good radiator shop and my 4 row radiator...bad choice!
Well, I'll still do what I can to make preparations in the next 2 nights. Maybe it'll be enough. Maybe not. Maybe little tricks will be enough. gotta focus on adding to the shroud I think.

Yes! I will be there. End of story.
If the willys overheats, we'll take the hood off. If that doesn't solve it, I'll park it! If the Willys breaks down on the flat tow, I'll get it back home on a borrowed trailer, then motor back out in the rudycon without the willys.
Turned wrenches from 7-10pm tonight. I think I have a good cardboard mock-up for a lower fan shroud. I'll try to keep it simple because something is bound to work better than nothing!
I'm not really used to this. With my old 4runner, I don't think I ever hit a trailhead with outstanding maintenance items or known issues like this. I think I have a chance...if I can keep the engine temps down. I mean this was a well used jeep. Despite all the mods and the overlooked maintenance, the thing must have flat out WORKED!
I hit all 6 million grease fittings and even managed to put some oil in the PTO winch's worm gear box tonight.
Checked my coolant mix. It doesn't float a single ball. (mostly water) I'm OK with that. the Rotax airplane guys run 20-25% antifreeze for 10-15 degrees lower engine temps than with 50/50.
Dumped out the penzoil syncromesh I put in last winter in favor of redline mt-90. both are GL4, but the penzoil is a little too thin. Frankly, I poured them both and I think the MT-90 seems thinner at ambient temp. *shrugs* we'll see. No chunks came out from the cases. Going to have to fix the rear output yoke seal one of these days. It is the biggest leak on the machine.
adjusted my carb's float level a little deeper. I'm going to run ethanol fuel and this is one way I can adjust for the lower heat content.
Engine started and ran fine. I also got all the rust I could out of the carb. No big chunks, but no reason to leave it in the bowl. I started the engine with the fuel pump off to get most of the fuel out of the bowl.
Stopped and got mag mounts for antennas. Hope to get a CB and 70cm antenna up for trail coms.
More tomorrow!

Holy Cow! That was one of the best weeks in a Jeep I've ever had. 6 full days of eat, sleep, Jeep and with fellow Knights to boot. Rudy, Lee, Jeff, Bruce, Tim, and Oilly were all there, and even posed for pictures. I'm sure they will be posted by more than one. It will take months, scratch that----------I won't ever forget it. Now to plan for next June here in the Black Hills. I think I have quite a few more showing up. What a fun bunch of Jeep guys. I'm just very well pleased. Haines, when you get your package, I especially like the pinion pine branch. It smells so good. Close your eyes and put on the hat and you will be there! Oil
