Doh! My plan is a bust. A day late and a dollar short. The seat was scrapped last summer. My heart sank when I learned it. I immediately went to my garage and sat in both of my beautiful little F marked seats and I told them both how much I love them.

Ok back to serious stuff, here is a set of felt firewall grommets, from Ron Fitzpatrick, yes Gods perfected Willis used felt grommets we often talk of NOS parts, not cutting anyone down or poking fun here, but I did buy a NOS part in Portland last july, sealed in it's OE container, not jeep parts but still NOS Here is the part after opening, a VERY hard to find part Lee

Haines, the Jeep is a tribute to a dear friend, Bob, he is 93 years old, he joined the Army air force to be a fighter pilot in January of 1942, but was not able to be a pilot as he did not have a high school education, only went through the 8th grade. He was then sent to Wright Patterson field in Dayton Ohio to become an airplane mechanic, and completed the coarse at the top of his class, then was sent to the 12 Air force, 350th fighter group, who at the time flew P39 aircobra's, then off to North Africa, landing at Casablanca Morocco. At some point in Africa the P39's were switched to P47 Thunderbolts, this plane is his pride and joy!, the war ended for Bob near Pizza Italy and finally made it home in august of 1946. So why "Red Ass",,,,,,the 350th fighter group/347 squadron was known as the "Screaming Red Ass" squadron and had a red donkey painted on the cowl of there P47's, much like my GPW will have , so in a nut shell, that's why the Red Ass. That gives you unit #'s and everything to put on your bumpers. Do you have a picture of the real Red Ass logo? Below the windshield or on the side of the Jeep? Tribute markings help keep history alive. I always thought the Army Air Corp. Blue Star was cool looking on anything. John

I just google imaged "red ass squadron". Some GREAT pics popped up.
As for those darn felt grommets...I wish I had put mine in when I did my tub restoration. SO much easier to do without it mounted on the frame and all the wires and crap (might be called an engine or something) getting in the way!
Agony is in the details, though. That's why I do them.

John, I will use Bobs unit markings and have the "Red Ass" painted on the cowl of the Jeep as well. Bo thanks for the tip, I will install them before the tub is set on the frame,,,,,,,,someday Lee

,,,Yesterday I was off from work (-30), I was able to spend a little part of my afternoon on the GPW, I cut a rusty area out for a patch, I am really not liking the sheetmetal work at all, where does one draw the line? ?, I have spent a good deal of time trying to flatten the front floor, yes it's ok, I have removed the bad ends of the hatchannels and was planning to just replace the bad parts, but upon further inspection I believe the remaining hat channels may be tweaked a little and are causing my unhappiness. I will have to buy the hat channel kit and cut off what I need so I may as well just replace all of it, but I do not have the heart to remove the nice remainders. Then looking at the passenger side I find other issues I will need to photograph for you experts to guide my dumb ass, If I get through this body (And I will), I will fly through the mechanicals Lee

A professional looking body always is the hardest part of a restoration. It takes the most time. Crap, I can't even restore my own body or get it in shape. I think the DNA is breaking down! John
