Got you down Rudy. Now twist Hawkridge into tagging along! He doesn't know when he can get off. All you have to do is quit your job, sell the house, and it's easy. Bruce W. is in the same boat. The world of work and responsibility sucks. It's a week long so we would love to see you even if it's for a day. Oil

OilLeaker: It's Easy. I'm going to sell the (rental) house, burn about a week of maxed out vacation time and make it happen. As stated, Life is short!
Logistics: I have to lead a hike on Saturday which means I hope to drive out on Sunday.
Gettin' there: The JKUR "Rudycon" is only rated to tow 3500#. The willys weighs say 2400 with the Studebaker, winch, and heavy bumpers. My Father-in-Law's 2axle trailer weighs 1600# so I can't trailer it with what I've got. I'll have to flat tow on the "blue highways" because both rigs are happier at < 55 MPH in the flat tow configuration.
Options: I'm going to see if my Dad wants to go. If he does, and can drive up his buff little off-road oriented Tacoma from Arizona, It is rated to tow 5000#. That'll do. If he doesn't want to go, I'll see if my Jeeper Father-in-law wants to go. If he goes, we can tow with his Cadillac and trailer. If that doesn't work out, I'll see if my old friend Jeremy wants to go. He has just a CJ2a tub, but a fun baby too so he might not be in for this trip. Longshot is that friend Pat has his flatty put together. I think he has a 2 spot gooseneck trailer and the truck to pull it.
Other options I have looked into: Rent a bigger tow rig $500 Rent a uhaul van and put the willys in the back $500 auto hauler service $500
I don't really mind flat towing for 500 miles each way on the backroads of America with the JK. Besides, I have seen I-25 at 75 MPH already.
By the end of the month, I'll have sold enough Toyota parts to have a 4 row radiator rebuilt for the Stud-a-willys. Then, I hope to find a machine shop to make me a fan spacer so I can run a 6 blade fan. That should help with my cooling woes.
I drove the Willys today for about 8 miles. Fuel pressure stayed above 1 PSI when floored, and temp stayed below 180 but it is winter. I was THIS close to pulling the willys into the garage and taking it apart to work on the mechanical fuel pump and pull the fenders off so I can adjust the valves!

Haines, your feeling is correct. Rudy, have you thought about a car tote.? The kind that has the front wheels on it and the vehicle rear wheels on the pavement. You need to keep the wheels well tied down, and watch sharp turns, but it would reduce the load for you and steer way better than flat towing. I'm happy my friends are coming. Way good! This will be more like a meeting of very good friends. Jeeps will just be a way to go have fun together. We are at 20 hats now, and I'll need to order more if it gets much higher. Oil

If you are not hooking up with Lee first, then Rapid City is all you have for a choice. Haven't flown for quite a while, but when I did they had a irritating layover in Minneapolis. Oil

How far is Rapid City from your place?

From my door to the airport about 50 miles. Rapid City Regional Airport, 4550 Terminal Road, RCSD, 57703. My place: 12072 Crook city Rd. Whitewood, SD 57793. You take Hwy 44 to Radar Hill Road, down to Box Elder and jump on I 90 to Whitewood. Box Elder is on the East side of Rapid City. You miss all the crap. Easy drive. If you rent a car, you can go and see other things while here, like Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Custer state Park and the Needles highway, Iron Mountain Road, all cool stuff. I'll send you a handy map of the Black Hills! You can Mapquest or Google Earth and fly around. Oil

Excellent. The hat lady sent me the W/O digital pattern. Looks very good. I don't think anyone has a W/O logo on the front of a hat . They will be a collectors item. It will be easy to just change colors different years if everyone likes them. I sure like playing with Jeeps. Way better than a parking lot full of pissed off concours types. I hope Jpet likes the stickers. Oil

Request for time off approved.
Asked the renters to make an offer on the house.
Put some ham radio stuff up for sale to fund Willys hobby.
Lee: Sincere thanks for offering to turn up a fan spacer. I'll try to get the 4 row in there first so I can get the length correct. I have a fan and pump I could send.
Oilleaker: I have considered a car dolly. I didn't have any trouble with the willys tracking hot straight and normal behind the Wrangler last fall but I understand the reduced risk/wear of towing with at least some of the willys off the pavement.

If scheduling keeps up like it has since last October, I may be completely retired by June. If so, Katy bar the door!

Ok, I am heading up the Black Hills Jeep run sticker deal for Oilleaker . His lovely bride and himself came up with a prototype, I had my local sticker factory refine it, and I will place an order as soon as I can get a count of how many we need!. the more we order the cheaper they get. As of right now we have a count of 16 Jeeps an I would think all 16 would like one, some 2 or 3. I think 30 will sell and 30 will cost around $2.50-$3 ea. I will try and post what it looks like if I can figure it out . Lee

Update: Whitewood is indeed having their annual car show the 27th. It's a free show and stuff of all kinds gets dragged out of garages and barns. Rat rods, antiques, pickups, street rods, restored classics, motorcycles, just about anything shows up . Even the camero club meet in Sturgis that weekend shows up. I usually show some Green Machines. Now no one has ever showed up with 20 antique Willys Jeeps! That would be extra cool. Anyway, we have more variety for the Black Hills Run to entertain you! And--------it's free. Cool huh? How many want to see it? Oil
