Here's the new poll. If you should like to explain yourself as to why you voted, feel free to do so...
Keep it Clean, and no hitting below the belt....
This will get interesting....

Definitely the best "Low Hood". Here we go, flame me, but I own all but the 3B and I've owned a 3B in College. The M38, has a better frame, stronger and already boxed with tie down hooks. The floors unbolt and remove for total access. The shifter unscrews from the tower on the transmission. The grill unplugs electrically and folds forward for removal. The engine, transmission, cooling system removes along with front motor mounts and radiator (still full) with lifting hooks all in one unit. Designed to be swapped out and put back on the front lines in hours. Better wheels with safety beads for low running pressures and heavier gauge. Bigger gas tank, better spare mount on the reinforced tailgate which is also reinforced for a gas can. Two 12 volt batteries for better cranking ability. Lifting hooks for fast slinging onto ships or air dropping from the cargo plane. ( always a good thing so you can get to a Jeep meet in a hurry) . Tools, ax and shovel standard. Optional built in jumper cables, quick clean oil filter, rear seat brackets standard, optional plug in port for things like stick on window defrosters, two types of heaters, southwind gas, or hot water, rifle rack brackets standard, my God, I'm getting tired. Now for the most useable trait. It was designed to run neck deep on the driver for 15 minutes underwater!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can fish, ford, swim, or chase girls in Bikinis with it! The last one has to win this contest! No applauding please! Send all Jeep parts and rare options to: Oilleaker1 (the winner of this poll)

I wholeheartedly agree with oilleaker's in depth and extremely informative technical assessment. However, I'm voting "3A" because I just like them better :-)

Ryan, step back a bit. A M38 is nothing more than a improved CJ3A. You just can't lose voting for a M38. You already have one-----------almost. Come on now, give a little! John

John No question M38 is a superior machine if judged strictly on mechanics and it easily commands more respect than the rest of its flat-fendered bretheren. Perhaps I was born a couple generations late but I just like the old-American farm culture the 3A stirs up. Ma & Pa headed to town on a dusty dirt road sorta-stuff. I like the looks of a 3A over a 2A and earlier Jeeps and M38's seem get lost in the militaria. So it's still the 3A for me. (Don't get me wrong , though, I LOVE them all). With that said, if I ever have to pull the tranny on my 3A my first tool of choice will be a sawz-all to the floor and create an M38-like access panel.

Hands down for the "ICON" award would be the WW2 GPW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and MB, (Haha) everywhere I drive my 2A the commoners think it's WW2...............Now your thinking, "whats the dumbass from MN going to pick,,,,,,well naturally I do agree with oilleakers analogy, no point to argue, the M-38, all good,,,,,,,,,"BUT", if I could only have one, as a driver it would be an M-606, classic flatfender, military "COOL". So why the ugly duckling, 12 volt, F head engine with enough power, used with an overdrive, a pleasure to drive, and I can walk into NAPA and buy a coil, spark plug wires, waterpump, carb kit, that I cannot for an M-38. Now there is no M-606 in the poll so I will go with the 3B, and the late ones had the removable floor like the M-38 Lee Now Bo can make it a dead heat, LOL

I think this is going to be a whatever the person owns answer. You all need to buy one of each, fix it all up, and then come back and answer the question again. Lee, Ford means : Found On Road Dead! or F'ing Old Retired Dodge. Frankly, all makes have dogs and jewels. I like variety as well. John

I don't have one, but I have studied them extensively. My vote: M38.
As mentioned above, the design improvements over the already superior 3A, are impressive. It is too bad the military viewed it as a failure.

Lee has the "right attitude". Jeep/ green machine sickness. it's very healthy, keeps you out of the bars---------just drink at home LOL. I do have to admit that my first choice or lust is a WW2 Jeep. My MB was first. After working, driving, and studying them all, the M38 is a no brainer. Looks like sensible people agree! Get busy and buy one of each model. They sure made allot of them. Dang. John

After going through oldtime's search for the perfect jeep over on the 3B page, I have to agree with him. And probably because that's what I drive. I've had at least one of all the cj's except the CJ3A and the CJ8, and I do enjoy the 3B!!

I voted 3B. Most ugly of the flat fenders and poorest visibility, but you just can't beat the extra under-hood space for cramming a bunch of stuff under there.
