I am utterly embarrassed that I even voted in this ridiculous poll.
Now...Oilleaker at least backed up his vote with an in depth analysis as to why, and I have to agree, if this were some sort of presidential election, he'd probably get my vote...but...
...I'm a stickler for originality. If it weren't for WWII, the M jeeps would've had nothing to improve upon. After all, they didn't reinvent the wheel...they had ten years to improve it!
Bo!

The F head engine has 12 more horsepower, and mine seemed to start better in real cold weather than all the flatheads I've owned. . The induction and vaporization was better. CJ3B's are the ugly duckling of the bunch. The hood would allow for a high rise or supercharged V 8 though. If you go look at Ewillys.com, a vast majority are V8'd with super swampers. When a all original pops up, they sell for amazing money. I tried to buy one that was over in Wyo. with a Koenig winch on it. Needed allot of body work and still went for almost 4 grand. Anyway, I think M38's are just rare enough that most guys don't know much about them. This poll is not voting on features, but on which baby they own. With that said and the most Jeeps sold by model, the CJ2A should win a popularity contest. Bo, you sold me out didn't you! John

I had to vote for the 3B. All of the improvements that the 3A has over the 2A, the 3B has, plus more horsepower! You can't go wrong with horsepower! True, the M38 has a lot of extra features that none of the other flatfenders have, but they're not all advantages. I'd be willing to bet that the M38 is heavier than those preceeding, with the same engine, so the earlier models would out-perform it. (I'm only guessing here, and maybe reaching a bit ) The 3B might even be lighter than the M38, and with more HP to boot! I think I should be allowed one vote for every Jeep that I own, and of course I would allocate them accordingly - I could possibly put the 2A in the lead, Scott. BW, TS

Well, the poll doesn't lie. Green is good. Just like a Forest Products Class I took, the slogan was: Wood Is Good! John

Voting on this poll ended today..
Seems on the Haines Garage Site, the M38 is KING!
This doesn't mean that I will be running out buying one...
I still say WILL-IS MB and CJ2A.
But A poll is a poll..and the public has spoken...
Congratulations...Willys M38

The disease of Jeeps is quite simple, if you enjoyed working on your M38 or CJ2A, and you finish and drive it, What are you going to feel? I'm betting you will start looking for another one to build and most likely a different model. They will fall into your lap and beg your attention! John

John Our friend from the great state of South Dakota has made a well stated point. If you truly like Jeeps, one will not cure the hunger , and yes they do come to you, much like kittens to an old lady cat freak, and lets face it, Jeeps smell wayyyyyyyyy better than a house full of cats!!!!!!!!!!!!. I have seen evidence of this just yesterday in southern Iowa, at our friend Kilroys, (Jeeps not cats ). And Oilleaker, big talk of your south Dakota event!!!!!! as well as FCT. HG will bee adding onto the Garage know doubt . Lee PS, the M38 well deserves the honor, one of the smallest batches of Jeeps made, with the highest COOL factor = good investment!!!!!

Lee, good to hear that I'm on the list in June. I like apple pie and jerky too! I'm excited and will dig out some of my old favorite trails. A Willys Jeep on a Black Hills Trail is where they shine! They were made for the back country. The four wheelers you run across when out in the woods all wave and smile and comment on them with envy. Stupid part is the Jeep is cheaper. Won't be much longer and Hulett my '48 2A will be sporting his Koenig Ironworks half cab. I finished fitting it and now to do the bodywork and paint. I'm using nut inserts to mount it. That way it can come off with a screwdriver and a 7/16 inch wrench. I even mounted the side rear view mirror with the inserts. Unbolt, take off the top, and re-bolt it back on the original mounts. Drive Jeeps all summer, work on them all winter. Jeep mania. Love it. John

John, you will need a set of earplugs, "Hulett" is going to talk to you in ways you have never heard , rattles, transmission whine, and wait till you hit washboard bumps, you may rethink this metal top thing, been there done that!, LOL Lee

Unfortunately you are correct on the noise. Even a canvas or vinal top is loud. I plan on insulating it as much as possible. John

I missed the vote but if I could have I would have voted for the 3B simply for its engine and gear choices which is more significant IMO. Its not my favorite but is still the best flatty.
