Boy, I certainly don't know what page I was on to come up with Randy!!! At least with the old rotary dial phones we could say we got our finger in the wrong hole, but Randy from Ryan! WOW, good trip. LOL

It may be a Ford, the passenger side rear tool box lid is a GPW type, if you go back, look at the front crossmember, if round its a Willys, if not a Ford!. Nice find, looks like a parts rich find, Cha-ching!.

This happens frequently.....which is why I take a bunch of pictures to review later. [\

You might very well be the luckiest person I've ever met - want to pick my lotto numbers? There'd be a percentage in it for ya! Here's what I don't get - it looks to have GPW toolbox lids as Lee pointed out, but the grill isn't right for a wartime jeep, is it? The headlamps aren't recessed. Some of the more detailed stuff you guys will pick up for sure, but that is what I noticed right off. My problem is not being able to see through the junk to get to the actual components - my eyes just aren't trained. And no, I didn't see it through the bushes either.

That's a GPW! If you land it, I'd like to get the rear hood underbrace from you for my hood! Basically the last 8 inches of the rear of the hood. The tobe filterette is still there. Steering box, but wow the rest is scetchy. I chuckled when you put snake in there. You got us. The transmission is out of a E type Jag------------Moss Box. Way to go Jeep Sniffer! Oil

There really was a snake in there! I thought I got a better pic but no such luck - you can barely see a few scales sticking out. Just a little harmless garter snake. Last night, walking through that tall grass with sandals on, is one of the few times I'm happy Maine has no venomous critters. The rusty combat rim bit me harder than the garter snake would have.

Jeff, they bolted 7 inch buckets on the front of a WW2 grill. 7 slots = civi, 9 slots = WW2. Too bad so much is gone. Still has lots of useable parts. They aren't making them anymore. You wonder if more of it got stashed in a barn or crawl space. If the hood is original, I think those are rubber hood blocks. Earlier I think. The Vin should be on the frame LF, top of the rail, inside under the hood, right behind where the fender tab bolts to the top of the rail. The pictures are so cool. Ryan, you should start a archive of "AS Found" digital pictures. They could be blown up and framed, or used as calender material. I'm just amazed at what is still out there. Oil

Wow! It's like finding pirate treasure again and again and again with you! For such a small geographical area, it is jam packed with decrepit jeeps! You seem like such peaceful folk. Was there a lot of military bases in that region "back in the day"?
Ryan...IFyou get that jeep, don't cut up that hood for Oilly unless you are 100% sure you can't salvage any hood numbers! Oilly...are you searching for the F mark or something different in the hood?
Lots of great bits and pieces on that GPW. Did anyone notice how nice the temp gauge face looked. Ryan even had it warmed up to operating temp!

Oil Oilly, I wondered about that after I posted - was too hard to tell. What's "Mainese" for bubba? Thanks for the tips, too- if I even heard that it fell out. I like the idea of "As Found" archive, and if/when the salvageable parts are cleaned up and sold, document those too!
Don't you just love being told what to do with your good fortune, Ryan? LOL

You seem like such peaceful folk. Was there a lot of military bases in that region "back in the day"? We are peaceful folks but geographically located in a wonderful "jump off" point for bombing the hell out of anyone our great leaders decide they don't like. The now defunct Loring AFB ( en.wikipedia.org/?title=Loring_Air_Force_Base ) was a primary base for B-52's and Godfrey/Dow Airfiled in Bangor ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangor_Air_National_Guard_Base ) was, and still is, another popular refueling spot before heading across the Atlantic. Although military traffic is greatly reduced today I still see some pretty wild things coming and going from there. It's the first spot where international commercial airliners dump unruly passengers if need be too.

I would be interested in the Horn bracket should you pick up this fine historic piece. Having the history of a B-17 base nearby must be fascinating.

Eric, I have a extra horn firewall bracket. Moosey, my hood undersupport is now trash due to some DFPO's welding ability. Talk about goober goose shit welding. Lee is bringing me another hood, but the Jury is still out on it. Shipping the entire hood would be devastating, but the rear portion, not too bad. He hasn't landed the hulk yet either. Don't go all GPW on me now! Hey, you could go pick it up on your way out to The Black Hills Run. You better leave now! HG has a jump on you.! Oilly

Say what??! The GPW in the weeds is still bouncing around in our brains. This is getting sick! I don't know about the rest of the guys, but I'm starting to lose track of your treasures. When will the google earth satellite make a new pass so we can see the jeep non-junk yard? Lol
Hey guys...I think it's time we all head to the north east and have a good old fashioned Amish barn building weekend at Ryan's.

Moosey round up the crew and head on up. I'll start cutting some trees for the barn build. And it does look like I have misidentified a Jeep for the second time this week. This appears to be a CJ-5 not an M38A1. See what happens when you pick up a Jeep in the dark after a couple beers? You go to sleep next to a nice M38A1 and wake up next to a haggard CJ-5. Be careful out there boys

Beer goggles and jeeps. That is just funny. And will probably make Gary's day.

PLEASE pick some lotto numbers for us! This is beyond silly - all that happens when I sit around drinking beer is I get fat.
So, level with me - are you pulling off a massive companion jape to "the truck and train track trek trick" on us by making these stories up just to get our goat?
(LOL, because that was definitely damn dumb)

You are my favorite person to sit on the sidelines and watch. The pile you are amassing is just a Jeep lovers dream. What I really am waiting for is when you find the 98 year old man's garage that is opened for the first time in over 70 years. He has just passed away and the junk inside is to be given away to anyone, just to clean it out so the new people can park inside. Just a bunch of wooden large crates with old Jeeps inside from WW2. All old junk. I'd drive immediately on a moments notice to "help" you clean them out of there. Jeep Hotline!!!!!! Gotta love it. People will be sayin------he'll buy anything Jeep. Just call him. ( Moosey, get his number, we'll dream up a good one that will make him drop his beer and run for the truck and trailer) Free poisoness snakes or something. Ryan the latest is a CJ5 for sure. The 3B in the backround is viewing it all. Maybe I need to do the same and start "The Black Hills Jeep Dude Ranch" Oh oh, forgot, my wife likes plants better. Jeep yard art isn't one of them. Ryan better save all those manuals. He'll most likely have each to work on. Oilly

Glad you're enjoying this Oily (and others...except Gary...he's just getting more upset )...I know I'm having fun. Check out this morning's escapade: It's been a pretty productive week so far. I've ramped up efforts in seeking out these old gems and my work is paying off. I went on the offensive a few days ago and scouted a spot through local legend and Google Earth that I thought might hold some hidden secrets. A visit with a highly eccentric yet very personable owner today resulted in a tour of his private salvage yard. It's not open to the public but more or less just a personal collection of junk amassed over a few generations. It was outstanding. I must have passed over 6 or 8 Willys Wagons, a Commando, and an FC until - lo and behold - I spied the decrepit remains of a GPW. It's pretty much a solid piece of rust but it's "F" marked rust nonetheless. We quickly agreed on a price it was mine. You just can't make this stuff up.... I'm pretty sure I'm in violation of some town ordinance at this point...

Hahahahahahahaha!
This is becoming hysterical. All I can do is shake my head and laugh. I'd say you are probably violating a town ordanance, too, but then it seems like everyone's yard is filled with jeep parts up there!
The serial number on the frame is just behind the shock mount, top side.
And you e got a T84 on this one!!!

Front shock mount or rear? Left or right side?
The motor has a "GPW-...." serial number on the boss behind the oil filter but I haven't had time to decipher the rest. I slid sideways into the yard with my trailer, unhooked it, and had to speed back to my real job.....
