I traveled deep into the hinterlands today to seek out this diamond in the rough. It's a '51 Wagon that's been in the owner's family since '68. From what I could tell through the glacier's grip it is in unusually solid shape for a Maine Jeep. It has the typical rot around the bottom edges but not nearly as bad as previous ones I have looked at. According to the owner he "rebuilt the transmission in '78 or '79 so that stuff's all new....".
The best part is he showed me all the original paperwork that came with it. All the Willys dealer/service cards, hub manual, owner's manual, etc. Very cool. We did not strike a deal that allowed me to drag it home just yet but we're on each other's radar now. You may not be seeing the last of this one.
Supposedly the original tailgate is "in the shed somewhere"
Ryan, you are "The Man". A real Jeep Sniffer Outer. Snow does not stop you. Actually I think snow is always in your as found pictures. Not only a rebuilt tranny, but it's a woody! The real sick thing is that I like it too! So many Jeeps, so little time. Sigh, oh well. Go get em buddy! Oil
I like that! Out of curiosity what does something like that sell for? Asking price of course. Seeing it has all new transmission parts and all
I offered him $800 for it. Probably a little steep but I really like it. I think he was hoping more for $1400-1500 but there's no way I could pay that given the amount of work it needs. I'm sure I could harvest all the parts off of it and still come out OK but I wouldn't want to do that. It's too nice to part out but not nice enough that I wouldn't have to sink a fair amount of money in it to make it a safe driver. Either way, I need to make a couple of bucks to justify whatever I do here. I have enough money pits in the garage already....

If I drag it home Oily you are welcome to fly yourself out here and fix it up for me
There are wagon fans, and wagon dislikers, I am of the latter group . no offense to the likers, just not my thing. Body work on them gets spendy very fast. very difficult to make money on compaired to a flatty .
As an aside, if any of you lot are interested in Jeepsters a buddy of mine has a few here in town he's looking to sell. I can get pics and post em up here if you are. I think he might have CJs still for sale too. He has, in my estimation, the same disease Ryan's got - though I'll admit that wagon in the latest post is a pretty sweet looking ride. THAT might just be a Wullus I'd own.
Note: do not roll one of those wagons. They rust off at the floor level and when you roll, the top part seperates from the floor!!!!!!!!! My mother was in one when it happened. She survived though. I'm a pickup man myself. It has a 6.5 foot bed that never has to be made!

Does he have any good, spare, wide, side mount radiators?
Scout, I will ask him. I know he's been working on trying to list and advertise all the vehicles and parts he has to get rid of. New babies will do that to a guy, poor bastard. HAHA

You ought to get him to join over here. He might fit in well. HG might become a groupie in his band.
I ventured out to the boondocks again today hot on the trail of what I was told was a decrepit "2A".
It's full-on mud season here in Maine which means anything that can be soggy is indeed soggy.
I found the seller's property and he pointed out across a mud bog and into the woods indicating the location of said "2A".
"How do I get up there?" I asked.
Looking at my 3A, he said "you afraid to get this thing dirty?"
"Nope".....4LO and off we go.
The 2A turned out to be more of a weird M38-ish salad. Motor was gone and the thing was pretty much a lost cause.
Oooh! But wait....is that 4 shift levers I see??
Indeed!!
Instead of figuring out how to drag the whole vehicle home I quickly bargained a deal to pick a few parts. Space was limited in the 3A so I made off with the rear seat and a Warn 29 tooth OD. Wooo hooo!!
I think that Jeep was a GPW--------it's all f'd up. But-----------As I panned down your pictures, I said to myself, get the rear seat and OD. We think the same! Good job! Oil
I don't know what it was but it was odd. I think it was an M38 frame. The tub was maybe an early repop? It had an M38 style glove box and removable gauge panel but no cowl battery box or tool indents.
And can someone ID this seat? It looks M38 to me but I don't have much to compare it to. I will probably go back for the driver and passenger seats at a later date.
I think it's a M38 seat. No evidence of tire pump brackets. The frame didn't look like it had any "M" plates and no regulator mount bracket for a m38. The body is a repop. What are you putting the OD in? You could race Lee if you did. The rest of that Jeep is just a sad pile. Oil pressure gauge looked good and yes, grab the seats. See if the springs are M38 or not. I don't think they are from the looks of the RF spring. Your add is still working for you. Oil
