Several observations, 1) Now the whole world knows you stash your pot in a Coors light box on the top shelf, kinda gives a new meaning to rocky mountain high!, LOL.2) Your Jeep has the wrong air cleaner, and grandpa Haines would really be proud of you if you traded it to your pal Lee for the correct one, that way he would have the correct one on his GPW, did I mention it would make grandpa Haines really really proud and you would have the correct one on your 2A tribute Willys Jeep, ( at this point your thinking that dumbass has gotten into my potstash and is rocky mtn high if he Thinks that is going to happen) I know!!!!!!!!!just had to ask!!!!!!. 3) this is kind of spooky but if I am seeing correctly your Jeep was tan from the factory by the looks of the firewall, and then was repainted a bright green, (now your thinking, what the H is spooky about that he had to have gotten into my Coors light box) Ok here is the spooky part, my CJ2A was also tan from the factory AND was repainted by the po the exact shade of green as yours!, what the He!!

Sir Leemeister...Nope. no deal. Oddly enough I have found many MB and GPW parts on Grandpas Jeep. And somehow Grandpa loved the John Deer Green. Give up the air cleaner?...not a prayer. Found a GPW Starter, And an MB Genny during the take down.....Just saying...

At this point, I believe all can see what I started with. THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT! I am most honored and thankful to be the keeper of my Grandfathers Jeep. I keep in touch with my Godmother, for those of you whom are Catholic. My Aunt Judy. I probably drive her half crazy with all the questions. She told me once that I had to understand, Grandpa loved that Jeep, but it was a tool for him. Money was tight, and what had to be fixed was done for what was available, and what he had to do to keep it going. I remember talking on the phone with him, he told me he had cancelled the insurance, and taken it off the road. I offered him the money to pay for the insurance, and registration. This was the only time I ever heard my Grandfather cry.
He did not accept...It wasn't about the money........It was about he couldn't do it anymore, that's my belief.
But he would never say that!
Another part of MY WHY.

As rotted as the frame, and tub are , the interior has some very interesting components intact. Notice the seats and frames. My Grandfather had covered these at some point with a heavy Vinyl. This will be interesting later in my build thread.

This is good stuff. I do remember seeing many of these photos from early on. The eastern home was not kind to Grandpa's old Willys. When I look at the photos, it makes my heart ache. I know this has been an awesome challenge. I know that you are on the 'down hill' side of this rebirth. I'm in the stands cheering for you. If you had to put a pecentage on it, how much will remain from the original Willys you brought home? Am I seeing # 44984 on the plate? If so, I may have to contradict Lee on the Oakes Air cleaner. I am no guru, but I believe the Oakes with raised letters were standard issue on 2As until Serial # 45985. I only know this because I have been looking for one also. #44017 was missing the air cleaner. I had to find out which air cleaner belongs in mine. Among other places, this research lead me here... g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63070&highlight=donaldsonSorry Lee. I would have liked to get my hands on that one too. Tim

Tim, I am not an air cleaner expert but have done a little research myself and the stamped info one would be correct for my 44 GPW, I was not aware they were used that late in 2A production. I have a stamped and spot welded tag type instruction air cleaner I will use on my build unless I run across the correct one, I am not that fussy plus it irritates the Jeep police, LOL. I find it interesting how many WW2 surplus parts ended up on CJ's, I have some old surplus flyers from several surplus houses from the late 40's and I am sure it was difficult for Willys to sell new parts competing with the surplus on the market, take for instance Hainses GPW starter, grandpa probably purchased it from a surplus house for $10 brand new, may have cost $20 to get the OE one rebuilt and $30 new from Willys. This fact and the conservative nature of the post depression consumer is most likely why!. Lee

There is a mark in the removable base....It is an H. HA! Sir Hawkridge has asked what is original to My grandfathers Jeep. I made a list this evening, probably left a few things out, but here goes
Frame Draw bar , skid plate, and mounting bolts.
Body Hood, Tailgate/ chains, Grill and all head and turn signal assemblies Floor covers
Front and rear axles with all components
Steering components Ross steering box, steering wheel and tube, all components Bell crank
Interior All Gauges, Seat frames, seat springs, mounting hardware, e-brake handle
Drive line Transmission, Transfer case, Bell housing, Drive shafts
Engine Air cleaner and all components Head (Ribbed style) Oil filter and bracket (was boxed, not the oil filter mount in engine compartment pic) Fan
16 inch rims (thumbs up here!) 5x of them
So what percentage would be the vote? I have saved anything I could.
Here is what was GONE! Original engine, and replacement, Frame Tub windsheild
Thats best I can do for now.
However....memories are 100% intact!

Nice, now some pics of the inside I am assuming you mean the L134 engine. Original to the Jeep was on a stand, a replacement was in the Jeep. This is what the replacement looked like when I took the head off, Brings me to this...I took both blocks to the machine shop, both were cracked beyond repair. the day I took them to the scrap yard, I told the attendant to remove them from the bed of my truck, wave , and I will drive away...That was a bad day
