NO F BOMBS NEEDED....YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE ENGINE GETS HOT IAM SURE .CRACKS WILL EXPAND..ALL YOUR DOING IS MASKING A BIGGER PROBLEM...
MAN HAD FOUR MOTORS AND ONE WAS GOOD...REBUILDABLE...
HEADS HONESTLY HE BROUGHT 6 TO FIND ONE THAT WAS ABLE TO PASS MAGNIFLUX AND RE-SURFACE,,JUST SAYING

I'm not masking crap. The owner of the block has seen the picture of the two cracks. I picked up the head today from the machinist. No cracks and has been decked- I've already reported that here. So your advise is to pull the engine, tear it down, repair the cracks or scrap it, rebuild engine or buy a rebuild able one from you, right?
If this is not what you are implying, stop speaking to me in half assed wannabe Jedi Master hieroglyphics. Instead, respectfully respond with a positive plan of action.
I'm out of here. There are a few fun people in this garage, but it certainly isn't worth the horseshit from the others. 'Nite.

After careful review . This thread will be back open . Some of the post will be removed.
Sir Turocy has done what he set out to do .
Get the engine unfrozen and running. .
He succeeded.
That is commendable .
I have also been advised about those particular cracks are common. And are of small concern .
I feel that this thread should continue , with CONSTRUCTIVE comments.
Carry On.....

Perhaps the neighborhood kids can push it around the block a few times, ya'know, for old time sake . Lee Ahhhhh.....! I forgot about all of that harnessed horsepower I have around here! Back on topic- no, not running yet, but that's because of lack of time to play. Work has been busy- our member-guest tournament that starts today. Unfortunately, I probably won't get to do much on it until Monday. All my assembly parts are here, so it should go (hopefully) quickly and painlessly. In the meantime, I need to dig up Lee's thermostat thread so I can drill a hole in the thermostat. While I was waiting for the head, I learned that the service stop light wasn't working. I had time to "tinker" so I investigated. I got very lucky in that it was just a burnt out bulb. The 12 volt sealed beam had individual tabs that were crimped around edges so it was really easy to take it apart. I heated up the solder and the bulb popped out. The modern day replacement is #1157. (The 6 volt replacement is #1154) #1157 has two tabs on the neck (like those bolts that are on Frankenstein's neck). Technically, both those studs need to be ground down and soldered into place in the housing. I only ground off one stud and did not solder the bulb into the housing. The remaining stud can slide into, turn and lock into place. In truth, I'm not a good solderer!

I like to solder. Sand the area to be soldered with fine sandpaper and use flux, things must be very clean (HG clean). Ava and I were at a yard sale last sat. afternoon and I picked up an old cigar box full of solder and flux for $4, a steal. One thing I would recommend on the engine is to use studs where the crack is in the deck, that is if it's equipped with bolts as some are. Lee

When soldering, I either nail it! (Not literally) or it just becomes a huge waste of resources. I'm sure I've done others, but the only real success I can think of is when I replaced my seelite headlights and grafted the old temp gauge tube with a modern tube. I think I could probably get the lightbulb on successfully...however, when the owner comes to get the jeep, I'll show it yo him and let him decide. For some reason, my ultimate solder fail is always looming overhead when ever I break out the tools: the horn wire onto the brass band on the steering column. Epic fail.
Funny you mention the head bolts and studs. It currently has bolts throughout. I hate torquing them...it's a constant fear that one is going to snap. There is only so much life in them. Again, I'll let him know he should probably replace them.

Finally have a day off! After a leisurely spent morning playing games on my iPad and drinking lattes, I figured I ought to mosey on out to the garage and finish putting the jeep back together. Frighteningly so, everything fell into place without being stubborn. Worried? Naaaaah. I'm sure this jeep wants to be done just as much as I want it to be done. She started immediately. That was nice. I think the carb has some leaks around the throttle area for I still had to keep some choke on her to keep her going. The vacuum gauge was A LOT calmer. No bubbles in the radiator. . Compression on #1 was 95 lbs. a bit of an improvement from 0. Just a touch of smoke upon starting up and then none. Took her out for a nice ride...temp topped out at 180. This time, going into third, she didn't want to die, but rather wanted to keep going. I kept her around 30 mph. Case closed. Thanks a million to all those that contributed! ::)x5 (HG style). I probably would still be scratching my head without you. -Moose Not bad on the first start. I pressed the accelerator pedal about 1/2 way through.

Good job. Maybe a video of the jeep on the road. That would be icing in the cake.

Good job!..............It's not done until I see a video of you crossing the bridge into Mt. Pleasant ........Chop chop! Lee I was going to drive it there on Saturday, seriously, to do a WWII display at the Scottish games at Boone Hall Plantation...right in HGs backyard. However, it looks like the owner is coming down that very day, so I guess I won't be doing THAT plan. And Oily...I wish I could say it would be in a few weeks, but I can't. Does it make you feel any better that it's on my bucket list? I would LOVE to "cheers" some beers with you.
