Back to the tour: Am thinking hard about my two possible flat fender candidates. One has a canvas half cab, and the other has a Koenig hard top half cab. I love windshield down, or no top, until it's 40 or less and raining and snowing. The rule about riding motorcycles is "You don't ride in temperatures less than your age. " I've broken that rule my entire life. I do the same with Jeeps. But, my partner might have a problem with that. So, I'm most likely comprimising and bringing canvas. You can't be a wimp but, you don't need frostbite or making your own wind chill of 20 below. I did freeze tears on my face once. It was 5 degrees and about 10 miles on a motorcycle. Another time I rode through Icebox canyon back from the bar at Newcastle Wyo. Got home about 1:30 AM, got into bed, the wife got out. You are ICE!!!!!! she said. Hypothermic is the word for it. Icebox was properly named. So, Dempsy my '49 3A is the candidate. I'll have tools, winch, chains, fan belt, fuel pump, water pump, jack, lug nut wrench, gloves for working the cable, extra oil, points and condensor, "Snatch Block", Tree chain, and chain binders, two way radios, and the usual personal items like beer and rum. I need antifreeze too you know. We'll see what the weather brings, but--------I"M GOING!!!!!!!!!! Oilly

Harley riders in Wyoming called me Iron Man cause I rode my motorcycle 12 months out of the year. Yes, did get hypothermia one time and didn't realize it. Take the warm one. The best bet. 20/20 hindsight is too late. Make the safe decision now. Or...take both. If it was me alone, I would go open. My 47 2A in Wyoming never had any type of top in the three years I had it. And now I only have a warm weather military top and a WWII trench coat.

After I did a winter training in Camp Drum NY at -95 windchill. I don't get as cold as I used to. It taught me a lot about surviving in winter away from all the comforts of home.
Sure does sound like fun to me. I will be there in spirit!

To answer you Haines, this is not the first time in the Rockies for me. I lived in Montana for 3 years and worked in the Rockies for the Forest Service for two summers. I love them Mountains. There will be no Florida or snowbird country for me. It is the first time to Mike's place. Lee the pulling contest is out. You might scratch my ball------------ . Your driving a Willys and I couldn't harm it. Now if it was a Willis, Uh Oh. Oil

For two years straight, the weather has been near perfect while I've been there. I think there was some rain a day or so before HG and I showed up last year. You never can predict weather in Colorado, but 80 percent of the time so far has been spent with the shield down.
Just layer your clothing. Be ready to overheat, and to feel a chill. It can be pretty chilly at 13,000'. 40 minutes later when we hit the high plains valley, you're burning up and stripping down.
I getting pumped!!!!

Rain changing to snow, steady or falling temperatures 1-6 inches possible, finger drifts forming, up to 10 inches total snowfall possible. This translates to time to go play with your Jeep!
