The Lt, needs an axe for short round. We have cut a KJRT deal Here is the start. Collins Legitmus Axe Head...You gotta love that name!

First step is to clean and remove mushrooming and burrs. Clean the rust and old finishes off. I found some OD green paint on this one.

After it is Fully Clean, I apply three coats of Red Oxide Primer. I also Stamped EK slightly, Only he will know The Primer has three wet coats and needs to cure.

Update After letting the primer cure, I select a new replacement handle Head is installed onto the new handle. I cant tell you how I do it, Trade secret you know Next is to insert the wooden wedge

Steel wedges are inserted next. I like to use 2 Notice the positioning in relation to the grain of the handle. Now for the Important part!

Here is the real difference between modern handles, and Originals.... It is called a "Fawns Foot" It is very hard to reproduce, but with patience, can be done....closely.

Interesting. Do you know why the style was universally changed? Does the modern version make for a better grip or is it easier/economically better to make?

Sir Moose Twit I don't know when exactly they changed. Let's find out.... My opinion is modern handles are far less to produce, as there is no craftsmanship involved. Don't even get me started about steel quality either!!!
