Are Jeeps ever done?, My 49 2A is in the garage getting some preseason maintenance. I have replaced the rubber strips between the frame and the body. While doing that I noticed the rubber t/c mounts looked well shot, so out with the crossmember, with that came 65 years worth of greasy slime mud crap, the crossmember will go back in tomorrow after a nights soaking in Gunk engine brite and a power wash, then the new front t/c output seal will go in, and then the new rear pinion seal that will get ordered Monday. Anyway seeing how they are never done I thought I may as well make a project thread of this Jeep also . Lee

This afternoon I installed the crossmember, trans and t/c mounts, installed my "Four Wheel Drive" decal on the tailgate. Finally a decent day here so I went for a ride of 20 miles, all is well and I am a little closer to a squeak free Jeep, the hood hinge is a problem, and I still have a couple seals to install, and motor mounts as well, Very happy! I installed the engine mounts last night, the drivers side had 100% separation, the passenger side was not far from separation. I also installed a new fuel sending unit from Walcks. If you need a fuel sending unit for a 2A, Carls has a brass float, I will see how it holds up!. Lee

Here is a shot of my shot rubber parts........The left motor mount was separated and the t/c mount was in the same shape. You can see the rubber body mounts very in condition from shot to not to bad. Lee

From now on, just drill a hole on top and tap it for a grease zirc. Will look cool and you can tell all it's a Willis upgrade to the hood hinge that was sent out on a dealer update flyer. Use grease close to your paint color! Critical. Oilly

Haha, I thought of that as well. It's unreal how annoying that rattle was, the hood would bounce up and down nearly 1/8 inch. NNNnnnnnnoooooooo more Lee

A much better solution than the extra 2 hood latches added to my bucket. Nice work and way to save the paint!
Ah-ha...so "mobil 1 synthetic grease red" would be a good color to paint my rig...

A lot has happened in a year. Anyway I had Sir Jpet make me a top, very nice, and I have it installed and have been working out some hardware issues on the doors and handles. Placed a call to Oilleaker this am for some door handle help (thanks) and all will be well. 8 weeks to the Black hills Meet, and am getting ready . Lee

If you have a worn out hood hinge, and are going to paint anyway, buy and weld on a whole new hinge. They sell them seperate. Oil

I removed my vacuum wiper motor a while back and was planning on sending it in for a rebuild but procrastinated and now its spring, so last week I started lubing it up and working it, and every evening I would lube and work it a few times. So this evening I hooked it up to the manifold for a test , Runs like Haines for the bag of Jerky . it will get mounted this week. Lee

I have just completed my post BHR fluids dump and re fill and grease job!, After Oilleakers u joint issues with Bugsey, I gave my u joints a thorough look over, and sure enough, the rear shaft front has a wee bit of slop, upon further inspection the little check ball on the grease zert is missing. new joints are in the future, the front shaft front joint is in backwards so you need to do a Hudini trick to get the grease in, might as well do all of them.

I suppose this means your top speed will increase. I'll have to install a magifying rear view mirror so I can get a head start on you even sooner. Lee has this thing about using his overdrive to pass you on the way back from a run. Beware! Oilly
