LOL, you would have been passed! I used the wrong stratedgy! ................... Been thinking about this all week ( why!), my mistake was staying in the left lane, had I slipped in line after each pass you would not have seen me. I do not think I will ever forget that little puff of smoke from your tailpipe when you pinned the throttle, very funny. Lee

Great news to report!, after the BHJR I put the Jeep up on stands and drained all lubricants, I have replaced the front t/c seal several times and it was still leaking. While it was drained I removed the yoke and old seal, seems the felt ring had found its way under the seal lip . Anyway I cleaned everything up with either (my favorite cleaner, and it smells good). Then I fired up the lathe and turned up a seal installer that uses the yoke nut to install the seal squarely with the bore, nothing fancy, but it worked perfectly. During this process, I also used a Haines Garage trick and coated the seal bore with permatex, as well as the splines on the output shaft......... 10 days later and over 300 miles, not a drop of gear oil from the repair area!.

Anyone ever had a muffler collapse inside ?.... I replaced the muffler on the 2A, has lots more power at higher rpm, engine also doesn't seem to build heat under load like it did before.... On a drive this afternoon I could run 60 mph and had throttle left, not that it would go any faster, but prior to this, it struggled to do 60. Perhaps it's all in my head

I had to do something to slow you up, so I sneaked in to the Iron Horse and "modified" it for you. Usually the new mufflers just fall apart inside and rattle like heck. Never heard of one collapseing. Jeeps are never done are they? At least you can get to things. Try working on a Jag or Healey. Jag for example, to replace a driveshaft u joint, You have to drop or pull the rear differential. They have tortion bar front suspension that has the connecting plate at the rear that runs between the engine and transmission. So, to pull the engine, you have to release all of it. A tough nut to re-connect. To do it, there are two bolts on each side. You disconnect one bolt , release the plate some, then put one bolt back in as a holding bolt, then do the other. Tedious. That is with the car suspended in air to take weight off the torsion bars. I have no more plans of doing another. Sounds like the next race is between you and Rudycon. I've not done any up grading. Crap, all I want is the darn thing to run normal. Oil

Not shire if the damn thing collapsed or not, does not rattle, the new one is the cats ass though. The old one had rust holes and was swelled up a bit from a bad day of distributor repairs, all good now!.

I have seen a 6" chunk of rusty perforated muffler pipe guts shoot out of my tailpipe. Testing for blockages is easy. Just remove my Willys L-134 oil fill cap and open up my lake pipes! As you know, it isn't much louder Which means there can't be much left in my rusting tractor muffler.

I moved this thread, because it is not a project. Maintenance does not count. Great Jeep. I love the fact that you listed it as Dads Jeep. Not knowing him ever, but knowing you pretty well, is a tribute and an honor. I am most confident that your Father was a great guy. There is no doubt in my mind. Thank you for all that you share here at Haines Garage. You are most admired and respected.

I phoned up RFJP this afternoon, spoke to the man himself, ordered up a new speedometer cable, and some other items as well as some of those double lipped t/c seals, that's for the secret project.....

When I did that spur of the moment, I started laughing from the beginning. I went outside in the dark, and was shooting blind. Didn't matter. I was still laughing. I came inside and was asked what's so funny?! That made me laugh more. I think I need professional help....
