I have been conversing with a group of enthusiast on these Garands for the past hour. Seems I have a good one. A VERY good one.. Don't be Jelloness. I'm just Farby Gump....

I bet the neighbors are impressed!....... "Look that Schiller bastard has a shitty old jeep in the yard", "for gods sake, he's got a gun now", "Relax Buford, he's one of those reenacting assholes that never got over playing with GI-Joes and knows everything from thread count on a Feild jacket to rivet count on an airborn dump trailer", "What a Prick" Be careful, and watch the thumb!

I am not a re enacting Bastage ! And F Script those neighbors. Turns out the Garand is March 44 . Now that's just weird. Remember. The markings on the Jeep are 3 11 99 Grandpa died on that date . I was born March 14th. Coincidence ... Maybe . I think not. And I always watch my thumb. The thumb has been what has been getting me in trouble for years!!!

When I was living at Grandpas while Dad was in Viet Nam. My Grandpa caught me with the mouth. He told my mother to nip that in the bud. She was defensive of me. Probably the product of the times. My mouth has been getting me in trouble since the beginning. However my mouth is heard . I will not apologize for the things I say or do. I will run it until the end. Call it a gift.

Yes. Yes indeed. A nice weapon. All you need now is the rack to attach to the windshield.

Are these good? Armor Piercing 30.06. The one on the far left will likely explode in the breech. Too much corrosion. This makes all of the rest suspect as well.

The old cheap ass curmudgeons at the range used to buy corrosive .30 AP from the CMP really cheap, then remove the slug, dump out the powder, remove the primer, install a new non-corrosive primer, dump the powder back in, re-install the slug, and then shoot service rifle matches and do very well.... Several said the AP slug was very accurate and shot as well as match grade slugs.

I'm a enthusiast myself and if the chips are down and you need a weapon for serious protection. Out to 300 yards with open sights, I would grab a Garand before all others. Go to a range and zero it. You will be quite impressed with it. When they discuss how we won WW2 and what helped, that is one of the tools mentioned. Jeeps also! Early in WW2 when the first garands were issued, the marines balked and kept their bolt action '03 Springfield bolt action rifles. During a nasty assult on one of the first islands invaded in the pacific theatre, the death toll was high and the marines were reinforced by a new Army unit that had the new Garands. When the smoke cleared, many of those marines walked out carrying a M1 Garand. Battle tested and they found it superior in the field. Excellent fire power that gave them a edge over the bolt action rifles. They did however keep the bolt action Springfield for use as a sniper rifle. In studying WW2 rifles, I ran across a article about testing actions of the various rifles used by us, Japanese, and Germans. I had it in my head that the Mauser K98 would be the winner with it's double lug bolt. I was wrong. Strongest action and more powerful cartridge was the Arisaka Japanese rifle. I've fired all and believe me, my shoulder was black and blue with that cheap looking Japanese rifle. They had very poor sights on a Arisaka. Sure am glad. The peep sight on a Garand and M1 carbine is a thing of simple beauty. Best open rifle sight I've ever used. It focuses your eye on that front post. That is the key to a good shot. The stock on your Garand has beautiful cartouches. A high dollar gun with even the correct lock bar sight. That is also rare to find. Is it all original or did someone restore it? Tell us how you found it? I had a friend who went shooting at the range with me and I handed mine over and said try it. He said "oh man, that will hurt my shoulder". I said try one and if you don't like it , quit. He did. Then said "Wow". He finished the clip and "ping". We had fun that day. He is now gone. Sad to remember. Oilly

I have worked for a family in Charleston for over 20 years . The son has owned a gun shop for 35 years . He is big into collecting WW2 firearms. I have asked him for years to be on the lookout for a 1944 marked Garand. Last time around in the gun shop he had just purchased a lot of firearms from an estate of a WW2 vet. He said .... I think that Springfield is a 1944. Sure enough! I was doing some work on his shop roof and home. We cut a deal. It's a game we have played for 20 years. I still can't put it down. Slept with it next to the bed last night. Like a little kid! Haha!!!

I know the feeling. A leather scabbard on the drivers side with the nose behind the shovel sitting on the step, and the straps through the windshield gap is next. Then you can draw it out like a gun slinger. Cool hand Luke!

You're going on about that thing like a reenactor .. And no ... More like this.... Rifleman's Creed[1] This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will... My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit... My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will... Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
