The clock spring that was Captain Lees Fathers worked out perfect. After checking multiple times, it is 5/16 inches thick. I used some jewelers snips to cut the spring. The length of the spring is 1 7/8" . Measure on the curve. I have to say, it is the small stuff like this that is heart warming . So Haines is rebuilding some seat clips ...BFD right? Wrong . You cannot buy spring material. I just happen to be blessed with great friends. Imagine. Keeping clock springs . Who does that? And why would you do that, and how would you ever know that a guy who might want to rebuild Grandpas jeep would even need that? You see my friends, it's NO ACCIDENT!!!!! I honestly believe that. Call me crazy, I don't care , I am!! Thank you Lee for sharing with me, once again.

Lee is definately a resourceful person, willing to help his Jeep friends, and he has for me too. He does like to pry and get after you all he can. It's a good thing. We have that understanding of insult and kid, but do no harm. My door is always open to help if I can. Now, I'm down and out. I really need one of you guys to help me out. If you had a extra Sherman tank or half track lying around, Moosey and I would be greatful for a kind jesture or gift like that!

I cut the rollers from 5/16 Zinc played stock. The length is 1 13/16 that is what I measure. I will soak the housings tomorrow in The Works. I took the burrs of the ends of the stock with crocus cloth. Should work well. I am a little reluctant to prime the insides of the casings.

I was able to drive them there.

Guess I'll have to get a sign made up: Will Work For Halftrack and start standing at a intersection. As to rear seat mounts, I think Haines may be the first to get anal enough to fix his. Kind of out there, but saving original is cool too!

After giving the parts the Works! See Video. I primed and painted the insides with one coat grey primer, two coats Black Semi Gloss. Getting the spring material in place was not that difficult, but needed to be held in place by finger. To insert into the two pieces together, I placed my finger inside the casing. I then crimped the two pieces back together in my bench vise. I used my Brass drift to finish setting the "ears" of the bottom section.

Trivia: what is the pounds per square foot required between the rollers in the rear seat brackets, to properly hold the rear seat from popping up and out of the brackets?

That's a Fargin trick question. The seat locks into the pin. However if you want an answer 220 221 whatever it takes!!!

Don't you just love a challenge? In this disposable world, I hear people all the time say "I'll just get a new one" when a short amount of time, a little brain power and some basic handy skills can make a seemingly broken thing useful again. I've taken tons of stuff apart just to try and learn how they work, so I applaud you HG for going this route with the seat clip. I may not be on board with your wholesale bad-mouthing of the "Willys spelled with a G and P" but I think you done good. Sorry it's only worth $0.000000000000746 after taxes.
