When I was heavy into Buckskinning / Black Powder, I read a lot about how things were done in the early 1800's and before, and learned how to make springs, altho I never made any. A lot of guys did make springs for rifle-locks, powder measure's, and other things. A flat spring like that should be pretty easy. Google it or U-Tube. Finding the right material might be the hard part. An old, wind-up style clock would be a good place to start - Ooh! Ooh! Maybe the wind-up spring from an old, defective tape-measure would work! BW

Ok Mr. Uptight brass painted nuts guy!....... I removed one of mine!, I will not take it apart as its in Mint condition....... Now it looks like the springs are 1/4 wide or 5/16, what is your opinion ?....... Upon your decision I will send you enough clock spring to make a set for everyone...... Looks pretty easy!

From what I measure, rusted stuff now, it looks like 5/16. They measure 1 7/8 long. Thank You!!! Now we move forward. If it's no problem , send me some 1/4 as well just to be sure. How is it that you have clock spring ?

My Dad repaired clocks, watches ect. Never threw anything away!......... The spring is as wide as the roller. Tomorrow after the automotive swap meet at the state fair grounds I will glean some spring from the big box in the corner....Monday, I will ship!

That is very cool. Now we get to repurpose what he had the foresight to save. You can't just walk into the store and buy this stuff. Let me know what I owe you. This may seem like a simple thing. Simple thing that someone someday might want to know. It's the small stuff that counts. I will find some 5/16 rod. The Moose is firmiliar with that I am sure.

Now I hope you understand that when you install the springs against the rollers, they have to be clocked right!

As 'wound up' as I feel about the spring conversation, I just can't help but think that retribution "Moose style" is headed your way for that rod comment, HG. Another "Wilhelm" rant, perchance?
