Good stuff Haines. Very different from a 3A or M38 so I was never quite sure how this style horn worked. As always, thanks for the detailed "how-to".

Ok, go to Walck's Jeep Parts, type in Horn brush in a search and there it is. Yours is complete. The hex brass post on the bottom is spring loaded and should move in and out. It makes contact with the brass bushing. You have done well. Now, does the column fit both the steering wheel and locate the brush in the right place? Oil

So the whole assembly I am showing you is called a "Brush" I was looking for something like what would be found in Starters, Power Tools Etc. Yes the original I have , the spring works. The contact sits perfect on the ring. Nice to see a new Brush only cost $9.99 I wonder about the quality after the whole ring thing...What a PITA!

Taking all that apart just so you have a horn on a complete running and driving rig------------------now you really know why so many have a bubba horn button. My '46 Chevy pickup has the same set up. It has a Bubba horn button as purchased. I'll have to get quite bored before I fix it. Oil

That's sweet, HG! Come do mine! The wire is there....just needs to be attached.
How did you heat the brass ring to get the solder to ooze? I'm inspired to do mine.

Did the Moose just have something nice to say to me...? Must be watching Dr. Phil again. The soldier . I have a very small stash of 50/50 (Lead/Tin) ACID Core soldier. It is now illegal and has been to use in plumbing applications. I use it for copper eaves trough (Gutter) work. You might get lucky and find some at out if the way or old school hardwares. I used a #1 tip on an acetylene plumbers torch . Very little heat. Pencil point flame.

Yes yes yes...that was a legit compliment. No moderator editing involved.
Was the tip on the brass or the wire or on the brass directly below the fanned out wire?

You can bend until they touch. 2 seconds at best heating both at the same time, then just touch with the soldier wire. DO NOT USE A BENZ O MATIC tourch! Not enough focus on the tip. You will melt the insulator! Hold on.....I show you!!!

HG, I've never done a 2A horn system. What about a good old fashion solder iron? I recently used one to replace the brushes in my starter. Not being a smart fart. I really want to know if this would work for this application.

Define "Old Fashioned". If you mean a electric one, forget it. I'm impressed with Scott's ability with a fine tipped torch. All that gutter experience has paid off for him. It takes a bit of experience to use a torch to soldier. Same with welders. Oil

No disrespect to the Honorable HG and this very informative thread BUT, the correct type of solder in an automotive repair situation would be Rosin Core, I believe Acid Core may attack the strands of copper and may cause corrosion in certain climates, just say'in as he is a puritan/perfectionist/traditionalist. Now myself, I use what I have on hand and simply do not care . Lee

Before I respond to your previous post, I want to show you something.. Brass Fasteners Bubba! How you like me now? Notice the vertical positioning of the slots . Now....I scraped my paint with my screw driver being an anal prick! That's what I get. I like it though . I will touch up the scratch upon final detail .

If you haven't antiseised the adjustment on the ram going into the master cylinder, do it now. What a pain when it won't turn while you are lying under the Jeep with two wrenches. Back to the horn brush, have you tested it with a continuity meter to see if it works properly. Now instead of when all together? You won't be "horny" if it doesn't work you know! Oil

Being the puritan I am, I have full authority to improve on both the design and function of my WILLIS the way I see fit. As for the rest of you, do as I say, not as I do .
