Good grief...what's with all of the middle schoolers on this forum anymore??! Ryan...I expect this behavior out of HG, but you? Et tu Brute?

i could cast them, if my teacher found out what it was he would shit a brick. ductile iron would be the perfect material (its what train couplers are made of). not a hard casting at all, starting to think maybe i should make a few for myself, (once again if he found out he would deposit a few more bricks. The whole sue happy world we live in has seriously reduced the cool crap we can make at school.

Schimmster Maybe you should do it as a thesis! How cool would that be! Explain to the professor what you are doing and why! I will bet you will be surprised at the response,

I've pitched the lets make jeep stuff before, first i was going to make OD shift forks out of bronze or brass. (we have a spectro so i would figure out what the original one was and make it close). Now we have a few options i could take an original fork and investment cast it requiring little to no machining. i could sand cast it making it cheaper and faster. He was scared then that any thing we sell cannot fail and cause someone to be injured thus going back to the school. Next i pitched dual wheel adapters, i convinced him they are spacers and not very structural so i was allowed to make a set for myself as a final project. The lunette is way more sue happy then anything else here. now will one get dropped into the sand idk maybe we are going to see.

I'd be the first in line to buy the home brewed lunatic lunette. Then I'd beat Ryan over the head with it before I gave it to him.

No homemade forge or foundry yet. The school however has a very very impressive foundry. Many heat treat furnaces and lots of different ways to make castings.

And the "instructor" has no balls The Shimmmmmster needs to go Roage I wouldnt want the Shimmster to mess up his chance at an education, especially at something useful.... BUT I agree, the instructor needs to grow a pair. What's the lesson for his students, don't do anything on a chance that something might happen....or do a job with confidence, respect the fact that what you do can impact someone else's life and safety, so work to the best of your skills, and don't half ass it! This not my fault $hit is really killing this country's abilities and work ethic..Geeze! Luke, this not a personal attack against your instructor, safe to say I've never met the man. Hes just doing his job..... It's a rant about the mind set of people these days!

I agree with the Professor . What I do not understand is the fact that Schimmms is an Engineering student at a University, so let's engineer, right!. I well understand the liability, cast an eye and test it. Is that not what engineers do ?. It's for a trailer rated for a 500 lb payload, the originals were overkill x 10. .... Again nothing against Luke or his school, I just feel students are cheated in this country bolth financially and by administrators of these institutions. Lee

well the foundry is not for engineering. we do very little to no structural design in the ITM (metals) department. The engineering side we do nothing really when it comes to making stuff. We only do the math but never test it so far. I wish we could make cooler stuff and sell it, so does the instructor, like i said canons and other stuff. coolest so far was my buddy made a transmission case for his truck.

Lee also has Bantam Brc 40's and 60's parts Jeeps, Slat Grill and Early 41 GPW's laying around. Got any SAS Jeeps with the Lancaster removed machine guns? I need one for prairie dog hunting. Those little bastages are getting away. I'm tired of it. Works on gophers too! A sherman for hunting Grizz would also be good. The right tool for the job. Oil

And to Lee and Oily's comments about shooting prairie dogs...that's not far off from the open scene in Pt 1 of the last Hitler flick. Spooky how life might begin imitating art! Lookout, Bob! Lol
