Good Eye there Sir Pet. I like stuff like this. Can we discuss in a little more detail? I have no problem with stuff that is exactly not correct so to say. I actually find it very fascinating that things like this can even be done, and that people can ID it! That is awesome. In transition from Military to Civilian. This is going to be a good thread. I am looking forward to seeing it progress. Please state Both Eric and Jeff what you see in that picture.

From this angle you can tell it has some civilian lineage by the boxing of the frame from the gun mount cross member rearward. The MB frame had no boxing on the frame there. The front frame horns are mostly correct but need some tiny mods to really look the part. Gussets are good but the outboard bumper bolt support may have to go as well.

Dang....I'm impressed. I want to go run into the garage and crawl under my MB now.

Hi Zook, You mean inboard bumper bolt support right? The 2A has 4 vertical tubes welded to the gussets that the four bumper bolts pass through. The inner tubes on the MB are not welded in to allow the wood bumper insert to be installed. Perhaps I misunderstand the statement? Also, the early MBs did not have gussets in the back where the frame horn attaches to the rear cross member. But later MBs did. Starting sometime in '44...... and ... The mounts for the transmission cross member on an MB are an inch forward to accommodate the T-84. m.youtube.com/watch?v=1bL464GHLSc

I had thought I was right leaving the outboard vertical tubes on. I know the GPW has none. Well going to leave the rear gussets. It's not perfect but very close with a few more tweaks. Using a T90 on this one and will have to lower the cross member about an inch to make it work. I have seen that mod with a 1 inch solid steel spacer.
Thanks for the tips. Always appreciated.

In the transformation from military to civilian were any improvement or modifications made. And why? I am learning, I find this very interesting.

The most significant change to the frame came late In 2A production when they went to 11 gauge steel and did away with the reinforcement straps on the flanges. Thiose straps were a moisture trap and caused the frames to rust out particularly right in front of the rear axle. GPW did not have those straps.

Anyone got a good Transmission/transfer case cross member? Do you still need one? I know I have a VEP GPW crossmember, and I believe I may have a spare CJ2-A one, for your T-90 conversion. BW

Yes, I still need a cross member. The location is for a T90 so it has to fit the early style frame brackets as you can see in my frame pics. I have a 3A/M38 one but that won't work and the the 46 2A one I have is bent to hell as it was on a plow jeep without the skid plate attached.

May take a few days, what with Christmas and all. BW

Zooke...I've got a transmission crossmember that originally supported a T90 on a WW2 frame. The crossmember was not original to the frame. I have no idea which model jeep it went to. Click the link and scroll to the bottom. The crossmember is the pretty green one next to a bent, dirty MB crossmember. jeeperbuythedozen.blogspot.com/2012/04/transfer-case-part-deux-2-finale.htmlLet me know if it's what you need. If I recall correctly, it might have a drill hole or two that needs to be plugged.

The Moose and Bruce...I love it, ask and receive. That is what is very cool about the forums. Someone always has what you need.

Did you make a screen, reuse the old screen in your oil float/pickup assembly? I doubt that screen was ever available since it was crimped in and not removed. I think the hole in the center with the surround was there for a reason, so don't modify that. Oil

Well it's the New Year, 2015. And my resolution for this year is "I can change my mind as much as I want to", it's my mind. So...with that, I have decided to use the GPW tub and not the Willys tub. Call me a "glutton for punishment" but "that's my story and I'm sticking to it". Work to commence within the next couple of days.

Well last week my cross member from the "The Moose" arrived. Some minor tweaking and it'll be good as new. Set in the frame hanging from the rafters so I don't bury it under all the other junk I have collected not jeep related.

Bead blasted a few parts today for a friend and primed them for him. Then since I was at the cabinet I did a couple of headlight buckets and an arm. All "F" marked. I do need to locate a front mounting hinge for the other arm. Just realized looking at the bottom pic that I don't need the hinge as it is a right arm like the one I did. Back to the box of parts to see if I have the left one. I think all the rest I have are MB.

Well got the word on the Supersonic today from Baldwin Performance. Crank will polish fine with .010 bearings, rods too at .010. Needs valve guides (was doing this anyway as well as new valves. He suggested new springs. .040 on the pistons as one other he took out with the broken rings made too big a groove. New cam bearings as the cam itself was he said perfect. Head needs milled as well as block surface. Needs a new fiber gear. And gasket set. $612 for all the parts from Ron Fitzpatrick Jeep Parts. And $300 on the machine work. I will do all the assembly. Not too bad really. Going to paint it Ford Grey and use it in "Arty". That will give me more than enough time to do the GPW engine that is in him. I already purchased an oil pump rebuild kit off of Facebook G503 from someone so that is good. Just need to find a distributor rebuild kit.
