Since I now have a running Jeep to use at the moment, I can now start on my next project. A 1942 G503 Motor Pool Restoration. It will be neither all MB or all GPW but rather a little of both. Something that would have been found in nearly any Unit during the war. As once they left the factory, they were never the same again. I have a 1942 Script Willys tub and a 1942 non-script GPW tub to use. Still in the deciding factor on this yet. Pictures to follow soon. Today I did score some parts off of Craigslist. The ad I actually saw on ewillys. So I sent of a reply and they were still there. I sent of the payment and will procure these next week sometime. I plan to list all of what I have to start with on this project and then will start on what I plan to tackle first. The ad: SEVERAL VINTAGE JEEP PARTS, SOME CIVILIAN AND SOME WW2 MILITARY. That's a nice haul, assuming the price was right. If you're anything like me you'll sell off the extras there that you don't need in order to buy what you do need.
Looking forward to watching your build. You did a great job on Short Round and no doubt learned a lot that will be applied here.

My previously completed MB type frame. I had done this completely and was going to use it till another easier conversion to Military Jeep came my way. This was set aside for when I had more time to do my Military Jeep project right. Right meaning having one to drive while I do another.  |

I think what got me drooling was the seat cushions! I have a 30 x 30 WWII tarp I got (well used) from the ECWA Siler City meet for 10 bucks that should make covers for those spring cushions look like original.  |

You won't hear me say this often, but I vote the Willys tub...you don't see that tub very much...especially in the states. It is very unique looking. More squared off on the cowl edges many other areas. You are right. I see lots of Ford Script but very few Willys Script. It would make HG proud.   |

Well to quote others before me...a Motor Pool restoration is one in which you restore the G503 to a condition it would have been done by the motor pool in any Division. Meaning it would have been maintained using any part available whether GPW or MB to keep it running and an effective combat ready vehicle.
Though the appearance of the part man have differed between the GPW and MB, both parts bolted up and worked as per military regulations. For 99% of the jeeps made, once they left the assembly line they were never the same again.
For me restoring a jeep to assembly line specs would be like a car that never left the sales lot. How many of those are still out there?

An excellent running engine. This is out of my early 1946 CJ2A. It was a plow jeep. Besides the engine and a few body parts most all was trashed. I did trade the non-ribbed head on the engine for a GPW head. Little things to make it more correct military. I do a have a 1944 dated and number stamped in the proper oval GPW block with crank, rods, pistons, front mounting plate, cam chain and sprockets, oil pump to use as well. Pistons are stuck on it but is very restorable. Choices, choices. The early 46 CJ2A engine. Plans are to take it apart and reseal it.   |

Your MB tub looks to be in better shape. And having a Willys Script panel makes it really cool and rare. I vote...MB Tub!

I had put the GPW tub up for sale but no real bites. Just parts off the tub wanted. So...looks like the GPW tub will be a donor for the Willys and it will truly be a motor pool restoration. Now to get the shop cleared and straightened out for the tub repair process.
My plans are to take the GPW tub apart and sell off the parts I don't need to help fund the project.

Zook, I can't wait to see what you do! You did a fantastic job on the clone. Few would know. The real stuff , Wow. Go for it. I love the WW2 Jeeps. I want a GPW, but they have now esculated to high lofty figures that blow my mind. I'll just have to settle for what I have and that is allot to fix. I'm deep in differentials for M38 # 2 currently. I do love all the Green! Oil
