I thought it would be fun to make a thread where i can share the fun and adventures our family has had and will have with or jeep aka Wilbur. I know how everyone likes to look at pics and seeing how my typing skills are way less than my jeep building or photo snappin skills ill probably have more pics here than words. LOL Wilbur was a father and son project and started out as a parts donor for or 2A and was missing the engine trans and tc plus plenty of misc parts. The tb was a rusted out pile and both axles were in need of reubilding as well. My son, Dillon, then age 12 and myself did the whole thing orselves other than the machine shop work on the engine. We hired the cyls bored and the crank turned and valves ground and hard seats installed. The hardest part was the time line we had in which to do this rebuild in. We started on it in March and took it on its maiden voyage to Colorado...with less than 50 miles on it prior to leaving, the last week of July. Yeah, we spent a few late night together out in the shop. Every piece was taken apart and gone thru. Everything was blasted to bare and reprimed and painted. All rust was cut out and new steel welded in. All wear items replaced in any wear was showing. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it...and now we have a lot of fun playing with it. Wilbur truly has become a beloved part of or family. Here are a couple pics showing Wilbr after the rust repair and sandblasting and trial assembly before prime and paint, and one showing it right after its first trip out of the shop. Attachments:

Steve, Your typing skills are Fantastic! Actually I was going to comment about how detailed you are in your post. The Jeep looks great! Thank you for sharing. I love the Father/Son Project. I look forward to hearing more. You have it figured out. Not about the vehicle, it's about the People Behind It. I am looking forward to seeing this thread growing.

One of my favorite pics at one of my favorite places. This pic was taken this July on our groups annual Colorado trip. The mountains name is American flag mountain. Elevation just over 14000'. The view is the most amazing one i have found so far out there. Attachments:

This past sundays fun. We invited a couple of our jeeping friends and their families down to play in or first snow of the season. We ended up with 3 jeeps and one samuria playing on our farm pulling sleds and climbing the hills we built to play on back by the pond. After a couple hours we had pretty well used up almost 30 acres worth of snow. LOL Then we all came inside and enjoyed a chili dinner and BS session. Attachments:

The problem....how to transport my sons atv from one trail to another in the colorado mountains...did not want to drag a trailer over the trails so...threw this together just before we headed out. Folds up and turns into a rack to haul gear and transforms into a atv carrier when needed. This pic was taken after hauling the quad up over cottonwood pass from Taylor park to buena vista four mile area. Worked ok, but next year i have a new invention to do the job even better. Yes, it kinda does turn heads. Most are surprised it can carry it like that, but it does rather well. Like i said, i carried it up and over cottonwood pass...both ways. Here is a pic of the rack in its up position. Attachments:

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving day today. It was a real pretty day here in Ks so i started it off by digging Wilbuur out of the shop and driving him 13 miles to town to do some shopping. Turned out they farm suupply store had big sales going on so i stocked up on stuuff we use. Would have got more but one can only carry just so much stuff in a willys...prob a good thing. LOL About 500 lbs of animal feed and hyd oil plus some other smaller items. Rode nice coming home on the back roads. Attachments:

We left for warmer climates Christmas day. Arrived in Galveston island tx to spend a couple days visiting my brother and exploring the area. Today Wilbur and US visited the beach, dipped our tires / toes in the ocean, and took a ferry boat ride to watch the dolphins play. Was overcast and drizzly but much warmer than back home. We learned ferry boats don't like Jerry cans full of gas on the back of jeeps, but got thru with it luckily. Tomorrow we plan to ho over to pelican island and tour a battleship and submarine before heading south down the coast towards padre island for a few days of exploring and relaxation.2014 has been a fun year of jeeping fun with Wilbur. He took us over some 14000 ft + mountains in Colorado, and the sands of the little Sahara dessert, rocks of Disney oklahoma and now at 0 ft elevations of the gulf coast. Heres hoping 2015 is a even better year for us all and our jeeps.

I am typing this from the motel here at port aransas tx. We drove wilbur down here from galveston island monday. that was about 250 miles. hummed along at about 53 mph most the way. Love the New overdrive i installed just before we left for this adventure. have spent the past 3 days running all over port aransas and north padre island with the jeep. Up and down the beaches along the gulf coast several times and made the big loop from here down to the jfk memorial highway and BIG bridge up over the bay and thru corpus christy following the bay as close as we could. saw the uss lexington aircraft carrier and some other neat ships in the harbor there, finishing the full circle loop by comeing across on the ferry boats again back into port aransas. We played in the sand dunes in a area that others had been playing in before, and put probably close to 100 miles on the beaches. Its been colder than we had hoped, so top has been up and doors on along with the heater most of the time down here. All total we have done about 400 miles in it since we arrived in galveston friday night. tomorrow we start back north towards galveston with no certain stopping point. Plan was to load up and start towards home saturday, but the wife managed to catch the crud thats going arouind so we might start back before then. Its been a fun get away, and a new experience having the willys as our only transportation as well as its longest single day road trip. It gets a lot of thumbs up signs from other motorists and a few old times stopping us at the gas stations etc to say how they had one like it way back when. Nice to see the smiles on their faces as the reminice. I will say, wilbur is way more comfortable on the beaches then he is in corpus christy down town rush hour traffic, esp when ya have to get on the highway to cross the big bridges to get over the bodies of water. LOL One i get home ill try to snag a few of the pics off my facebook page to share here. Here is wishing you all a wonderful new year. Ill start the year off with a couple hundred miles in a willys. Life is good.

Sorry for the delay, life has been pretty busy since our return from the gulf coast trip. Ill try to post a few pics from the adventure with wilbur. All total we did about 750 miles in Wilbur over the course of the week. It was a fun adventure even tho mother nature did not coopertae very well. One of the things i liked about the trip other than the fact it was something the family and friends did together was i enjoyed getting to experience a bit of 1951. By that i mean it was a bit different than any of our other jeep adventures so far in that Wilbur was our only transportation while there. The truck was left behind in a secure storage in galveston. It was a taste of what life in the 50's would have been like taking a jeep trip. All our luggage and gear had to be packed on the jeep as well as the three of us in it. Dealing with the cold rainy weather as well as a day or two of decent weather. Traveling the highway as well as the beaches...i just found it fun picturing it to be 1951 and my family taking their "new" jeep on a vacation trip. Ill confess, we did have a few modern luxuries along...cell phones with internet, gps unit and a laptop, but just knowing we had to count on wilbur to get us there and back and everywhere we went while down there was fun. Forced the pace to be a bit slower than a modern trip would have been, giving time to see all the sights easier. Got to meet a few more people than would have normally happened as it was pretty common to be greeted by a stranger while filling up the gas tank or stopping to enjoy a sight along the way and people wanting to inquire about our trusty steed. If any of ya get the chance to do similar, i recommend doing so.

2014 was a interesting year for our jeeping adventures. Thought it would be fun to post a bit of a recap of the year for us and Wilbur. Wilbur took us up to the top of Pikes peak, thru a massive thunder and lightning storm on top and back down safely. Wilbur took us to the top of american flag mountain for one of the most spectacular views i have found in the taylor park area. Its over 13,000 feet high and you can see for many miles. The pic dont do it any justice at all. Wilbur also took us to the desert to play in the sand dunes a few times in 2014. We also went rock crawling at grand lake spillway Attachments:
