Just signed up here but know some of the names i see here from my time on the cj2a page. My name is Steve, but i have gone by my handle kansascat for many years on line from my other hobby of collecting antique caterpillar tractors. I have a forum for that and any other antique piece of construction machinery called antiqueconstructionmachineryenthusiasts.com if any of yo also have interests in that area. A few years ago i finally gave in to my love of old jeeps that i have had since i was a kid and learned to drive a stic shift in my uncles 42 MB...which i still have out back. My son now being old enough to get involved in it with me..then age 12, we drug up my 47 cj2a and started in. While searching for a parts donor as the 2a was in pretty tough shape we ran across a parts 3a and decieded to se the drive train from the 2a in the 3a and rebuilt it all front to back to take with us on our annual colorado vacation trips trail riding in the mountains. We affectionately call this 3A Wilbur and it has become a much loved part of our family taking us on many fun weekend outings together. Since then we have gained a 55 M38A1 that we are building custom for trail riding and a bit heavier duty play in the mountains. I started a unofficial group this year of friends with a love for mountain trail riding and did the great colorado divide summer ride in taylor park colorado. Everyone had such a great time that word has spread thru them to more friends and we have a even bigger group already signed up and cabins reserved for next summers trip to Ouray colorado where the trails and views are said to be even more spectacular. We will have a mix of old willys jeeps and newer model jeeps, a couple Suzuki samurais....modern copy of a old willys basically, and a few atv's. Its pretty much the same thing as M38Mikes wonderful CFFC tour but we do ours last week of july so those of us with kids can go while school is out, and the weather is a bit warmer at the high altitudes. Anyone interested in joining us feel free to contact me for more info as we have a special facebook page just for the group called, the over the hill adventure club. LOL. As fir Wilbur, he gets used almost daily by me. I run a small excavating business doing mainly soil and water conservation for local area farmers along with almost anything requiring general excavation work. I use the jeep to tow behind my earthmovers when i road them from job to job so i have a way home at the end of the day, and i use it often when surveying jobs and setting flags and stakes as its light footed and easy on my customers fields. I use it on the farm doing chores and we use it on the weekends for fun family outings as well as taking it to the sand dunes in Oklahoma to play or the off road parks and events to trail ride in. My aging body dont seem to like riding dirt bikes and atvs as much as it used to so the jeep lets me still follow along while my son rides his quad, and now that i got the samurai built my wife likes driving it and is learning how to safely navigate off road trails. After all, the family that plays together stays together, and our jeeps play a big role in that here. I look forward to getting to know you all better here, and i hope my many years of wrenching on machinery will prove helpful from time to time. Now to figure out how to share pics on this forum

;)Welcome Kansascat as well!, I do believe you will fit in here fine, we tend to rib one another from time to time. We pretty much like everything here, tractors new and old, guns , motorcycles, on and on and on, plus all accessories that go with it. Thread pirating is the norm here, and every few days we get back to topic . I like old crawlers as well and will check out your site. I had an HD 6 Allis I saved from the Chineese rebar factory but sold it last year as I had no time to resore it. I have been a heavy equipment mechanic for soon to be 30 years as well. Jump right in, and make us laugh!, thats the best medicine for life . Lee

Welcome Kansascat

SP LOL. Well to be honest its a kansascat yellow. The jeep was one of the slightly unusual ones originally in that it was yellow, but when i restored it i painted it my company color which is a slightly richer shade of the old caterpillar highway yellow....which is a darker shade of yellow than the original color was...and one that i personally like. Hows that for side stepping your actual question? LOL

Glad you finally showed up! I will going on the record and say Steve is a great guy, a hell of a mechanic and a fun tour guide. Met him for the first time in the real world at the Colorado ride he put together last year. One of the most fun vacations we have taken in years. He and his son have since come to visit us in Texas and attended the "rednecks with paychecks" event. Google it if you have not heard of it. We had a blast but decided "retards with credit cards" might have been a more appropriate name. We fit in well.
His little 3A Wilbur is a super clean little jeep that he ain't scared to wheel. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will put some up from both trips. The redneck with paycheck pics get a little PG13 after hours if that's ok??? Hahaha.
