Today I continued my getting ready for winter task, and I had an old Hurricane sitting by the shed with no head, and most of the goodies missing. Many years ago a co-worker gave me a chassis his neighbor was throwing out as the head was stolen off of it and he wanted it gone, I parted it and this was left. It had sat behind my mothers garage for years as well, anyhow no more plowing snow around it, scrap time! , Still lots of bolts and brackets, flywheel. I rolled it upside down and removed the oilpan thinking the crank would be junk as well. The oilplug was missing so the water passed through and it was not looking to bad!, I popped off the rod and main caps and found both standard, and the crank looks good, other than the rear main surface will need refurbishing. Moral of the story?, never assume anything is worthless . Also the bearing shells told me they were manufactured in 1953, and the s/n had a J prefix, so this must have been a CJ3B. Lee

One mans junk is another man's treasure. That crank will work in a L head too!. How bad was the block? Oil

The block was junk! , it was when I picked it up. The whole dist side was busted out, and I have used the deck for an anvil for years ..............It was handy .

The anvil idea is Cool!! I have no idea whatsoever about a jeep engine block could ever crack!! Those Bastages are like Iron!! You must have one of those rare ones!
