Rod and main bearings .20 over , std thrust. $75 Pistons , pins and ring set .60 over. $90 & $45 Timing gear and chain. $225 (roller chain- primo! And quiet) or traditional $150 Valve guides intake and exhaust. $28 Valves intake and exhaust. $76 Cam bearing. $10 Oil pump. $145 Valve springs. $48 Gasket set. $85 That's only $827 plus shipping (and I went with the high end roller chain set up. $75 less if you do the traditional chain. Lee, that's $752 little ones added up.) Going through my parts stash the other day, I think I found a spare, unused cam bearing. Boom. Take $10 off. You could be set up with as little as $742 now. I might even have a spare jeep shovel that needs refinished. If you weren't such an ass to me, I'd give it to you to refurb and sell...put the profits toward your jeep engine. Boom. Now you're down to $650. Nowhere near $1k, butt-turd.

Moose, Thanks for the break down on pricing. The costs look familiar. Did you use Ron Fitzpatrick's site? If so, that's exactly where I went.
We've had an excellent response so far. Believe it or not, in less than 24 hours, we are more than half way there already.
Thank you to all for your support. The Willys community is truly special.

Oily...I think he has already had the machine work done. I guess though, he did it without the valves and pistons on hand? How does THAT work??

Moosey, the guide gets installed first, and then they use them to center the cutters for the seats so nothing moves. Putting in guides is not for the faint hearted. They also may put in hard seats in the exhaust. The new guides center all. I let them do it. I've assisted stoneing the seats when nothing else is needed. 3 angle valve job and you use the newly ground valve or new valve to check the position on the face of the lip in the seat. Pretty neat how it is done. Boy does it make a difference in how they run and flow. not sure what they did at the machine shop if he says he needs guides. No matter, help for Haines is on the way. I might get him to say Willys even! Oil

Yes, Even You Turocy!
I have yelled at people in my life, and even guys here for not letting me do stuff for them. So I will not insult any of you by saying NO!
How Fantastic! Now another story to add to this long journey. I really am choked up about all this!

The machine work has been done, Simmons Balancing here in Charleston. I was told they didn't need a kit to do the .60 over bore. That's it though for honing. The Crank was ground, the head and cam checked, and AOK!
Block and head have been cleaned, primed painted, lubed, and covered on a stand.

Scott, what about the valve seats? Did they 3 angle them and the plan was new valves? Guides OK? The leader of the parts run, Sir Hawk, needs that info. We want you to be behind the steering wheel and with us on the next run. You need this. I think you know after FCT that there is no going back. Once a Jeep lover, always a Jeep lover. I can't think of a better fun get together with friends. It just works. Mean people don't drive jeeps. They drive stuff they can eat themselves up over being perfect. Then turn around and insult others. I hate mean people. Now, the Willis people, I can tolerate them. They have Jerkey and stuff. Oilly

I'm really overwhelmed by the generosity of the members here at Haines Garage. You all confirm my belief that the Willys community is special. Very special.
I'm nearly speechless. And those of you who know me, know...it's nearly impossible to shut me up.
We have all made a huge...HUGE...dent in helping HG finish his engine build. Very soon, I expect to see a running rolling chassis cruising the streets of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina.
You guys Rock!!!!

The Folks hanging around Haines Garage really stepped up. With the contributions, we have enough to purchase... 638457k… Double roller timing chain kit. $ 225.00 A6797-060… Piston Ring set $45.00 637041-060…Piston and pin set $90.00 637183… Valve Exhaust 4 @ 9.50 $38.00 637182… Valve Intake 4 @ 9.50 $38.00 375811… Valve Guide Exhaust 4@ 3.50 $14.00 637045… Valve Guide Intake 4@ 3.50 $14.00 638636… Valve springs 8 @ 6.00 $48.00 Total: $512.00Over and above the listed items, Lee, Moose and Gary are also sending HG some additional supplies. There are only a few items left that will be the responsibility of Haines Garage. If he gives up Beer and Cigarettes for a couple days, he will have saved enough money to finish the engine rebuild. As a matter of fact...I'm thinking of holding back the above listed parts until HG can prove he has the remaining parts on order. What do you guys think? Good idea? Should I start a poll? I think we all need to see a committed HG...at least as much as we all have committed to his project!!!!!!! What say you HG??? Tim

From your original list...and what I believe is coming from other sources, you will need the full set of bearings, and an oil pump. You may need some bits and pieces like the valve spring "Keepers", but you may have stuff like this.

I have a full set of valve keepers used if he needs them. What about the collars or round pieces that fit into the spring ends? He should have his old one which are fine. Oil

I have the keepers and disc. I will be ordering the pump and bearings tonight.
I want you all to know that I am very touched by this. And not trying to sound like a sissy, but this whole thing has really brought tears to my eyes multiple times.
I just am thankful to have friends like all of you. We shall do something special to mark this event on Grandpas Jeep.
Thank you once again. I can't say it enough.
