Anybody else gave the problem of the Jerry Can Strap loosening? Or is it just me? For the sake of safety of me and of more importantly the ones who might happen to be behind me, I made this modification. I punched in two brass tarp grommets, and stuck a bolt through it. Next time I'm at the hardware place, I'll pick up a brass clasp and put in place of the bolt. At least, it'll give me some piece of mind.

Never had mine loosen. Where did you get yours from? Mine is from G503 and I just got one from Walcks. Walcks looks cheap and the color is wrong. Don't know how it will work out.

It's alot thinner and looks flimsier than the one from G503. I have another ordered from G503. Hesitant to use the one from Walcks. Mostly because of the color and now from what you experience.
My water can is going on the passenger side in a jerry can holder and will not have the upper strap holder like on the back of the GPW. So the strap needs to work.

Are you sure you routed the strap through the buckle so the teeth engauge the strap? Looks backwards in the photo. John

That's the way it goes. Just checked both of mine. The Walcks is definately thinner and cheaper. Pulling by hand it won't slip or move through but I haven't mounted or used it so I can't confirm gmcjr probem with his.

The strap worked great for over a year, but now, since it wore a little bit, the buckle teeth only want to grip where the strap isn't worn at all. In all honesty, it probably never would've came completely undone, but I get paranoid about such things..

Looks like a good place for a "lift the dot".

The thick OD canvas military straps work the best. My CJ3A windshield hold down strap is thin, black and flimsy and slips. I usually get mine from Midwest Military. They work the best. I'm replacing it before the next time out. Oil

Another source for straps are Weebee webbing or Beechwood canvas. I have a New Life strap on my M715 gas can and have never had an issue. Lee

The jerry can strap from Ron works great. Not so with the Walcks one. Got one on order from Ron. Heavier is better. The one from Ron never loosens unless I loosen it.
