I want to remove the top bow holders from my tub. Being the cheap bastard I am, I know I can sell them.
What have you done to remove stuff like this with minimal damage?
I though perhaps air chisel?

Depends if your keeping the tub, if so go to NAPA and buy a spotweld cutter, if not cut around them and let the next owner deal with the old tub part . Lee

I will put it on my to buy list! Saw them online.....coooool! A little tip on the spotweld cutter, drill a 1/16 hole in the center of the weld (just through the top piece) to pilot the cutter, it eliminates a lot of blue language , pick up a couple extra cutters as well. Lee

That would make perfect sense. I understand that there is a pilot pin on said tool. What kind of drill bits are best for drilling steel?

The pilot pin is pretty much crap to use without a very small pilot hole to guide it. You will find the small indents from the spot welds and drill a guide hole dead center. Then the pilot pin will work better. Sometimes if the body is rough you will need to use some sandpaper to find the spot weld. Go slowly so you don't go through both pieces of the body when drilling.

I had good success with the Dewalt drill bits that have the pilot center and the straight cutting shoulder. With one pass, they accomplish what Zooke is describing.
After drilling the weld, a 'light' tap with the air chisel works pretty slick to finish breaking the pieces apart. If you don't drill first, the air chisel will work, but will often distort or rip the metal. Don't do it if you intend on re-using the separated pieces.

I was born in Royal Oak, MI. Suburb of Detroit. I like ole Tom. And "Eric The Red" is family. Traced our roots that far back. Kalamaja is a Finish name. Now only a Suburb of Estonia and a Cemetery as the Russians tried to destroy their history by raising all the towns and cemeteries. Didn't work and the Fins kicked their asses in WWII.
