Very Cool Gary. Is that yours? Sideline business perhaps?

Is that a mica undercutter I see at the right end? Way cool. I have a full size lathe to cut the armatures but no easy way to undercut the mica between segments. Some say it isn't needed but I would prefer to do it. I'd like to see the action end of the lathe a bit closer if you can get a good picture..

That is WAY cool! I rebuilt my generator last year (HG...here is a link to that blog : Generator rebuild) When playing with the armature, I wished I had those cool, high tech toys! I would totally go into business rebuilding those old gennys and starters...if I had the tools and knowledge. The "local" shop is a second generation rebuilder. He has no kids. When he retires, the biz gets shut down. I'd love to apprentice with him, but I wouldn't last one day in the shop with all of the chain smoking! I hate to think that when my son grows up, there might not be anybody around that can do that sort of stuff....or perhaps there will only be one person in the world that can do it!

Fbill, here's the best pictures I could come up with I picked it up at a junk sale about a year ago, and I've been able to bring a few starters and generators back to life with it. I missed a armature growler on ebay for dirt cheap a few months ago . Maybe one of these days I will be able to collect enough stuff and knowledge to be able to do it as a sideline!
