I removed the cover from the rear differential on my 3A yesterday and have a question about the small upper spider gear. I can move it up and down about 1/8". I'm pretty sure this is not supposed to happen. None of the other spider gears have any slop. Can someone confirm whether or not this is a big deal? If so, what's the best way to deal with it? Tough to get good pics in there. You can see a washer on top of the gear. I think there's supposed to be a conical thrust washer there right? This doesn't look conical but I can't see enough of it to tell. I am including a video too. It's blurry but it at least shows the amount of play.

Something wong!, washer is missing or out of spec., Look at the Haines model 41 rebuild, it shows the washer. MHO, Lee

Screw it. I'm pulling it all apart. See my '51 3A build thread and standby for a frenzy of Dana 44 rebuild questions....

I believe 44 is very similar to 41. You may be missing some SCHIMMMMMMS!
