Any of you that know me may know me as a "purist", or a "resto-nut". Usually I advocate the most accurate original restoration possible for our little 4X4's.
Recently I've been thinking of a "Farm Class" restoration, similar to the G503 guys' "Motor Pool" class of restoration. "Farm class" would allow additions, modifications, accessories and repairs that could have been evident in the early 'fifties, if done to a high professional standard. What I've got in mind now may not even fit in "Farm Class".
During a discussion about modifications (to do/not to do) I was about to tell someone that I felt that if a jeep was mostly complete and original it should be left that way, but if it was already modified or otherwise damaged beyond return, go ahead and modify. In what might be described as a flash of lightning, or maybe more accurately a short circuit, accompanied by the required flash, sparks, and smoke, not to mention an acrid smell, I came to the realization that I have in my possession, 1; A '47 CJ2A with a good title, a decent body, a good frame and both axles, needing an engine. And, B; A complete, fan blade-to-parking brake, carb-to-oil pan, '41-'48 Ford Flathead V-8 engine with 4-speed truck transmission needing a home. Everything else I need to make it complete I should have. The hardest part is going to be figuring out how to connect the 4-speed to the D-18.
Like a burning wire shorting out others in the harness, causing a chain reaction, this thing has gotten away from me. I can't control it. I have to do it. If you want to come along, jump in wherever you can, and hang on! BW,TS
