my shock bushings are cashed, so I reckon the shocks might be too. I got a set of kybs that compress shorter than what I have. All my shocks are the same compressed/extended length Monroe #1003 or so. Front back seem to have the same damping. Some have the rock guards.
The old shocks have no compression damping and tons of rebound damping. The new kyb shocks have some compression damping and less rebound damping.
I thought the old suspension was pretty brutal on the trail. Will I make it worse with shocks with some compression damping?
Or..."You won't notice any differences at all. It will still ride like a jeep with 5.5" of suspension travel. Try letting some air out of your bias ply tires."
I noticed while shock shopping that it is tough to find shocks with a wide compressed/extended range like the old Monroe 1003s. This might be because with only rebound damping, you can run a shorter valve body on the end of the shock shaft?

Good question........ I would think compression damping would, in essence, increase the spring rate, but don't know if it would be enough for you to notice a difference or not. KYBs are real good shocks to my understanding, (I've never owned a set) they may actually work better.... If you already have the KYBs, I'd roll with 'em, the jeep is going to ride like a jeep no matter what...

Frankly, They ride about the same. Maybe better. Seems like less banging and clanging on the trail, but it was only 2high trail tested.
