Economic revitalisation of West Ashley is good and bad news. A 'major national retailer' is poised to sign a lease this week for a 30,000 sq ft parcel in the Citadel Mall, effectively forcing the American military museum out of its current space, and will have to close indefinitely. A deal to move the museum to a different suite within the mall with adequate space was unable to be struck, and no other viable housing solution is present at this time. While the lease signed with the mall never promised any special treatment, this is not definitely not the way the museum staff wanted to celebrate military appreciation month. The museum will officially close effective May 23, and there are no definite plans in the works to reopen. The museum was founded in1987, and here on the cusp of its 30-year anniversary we find ourselves cut adrift by a landlord for the third time in recent history.

This is wrong on so many levels. America seems intent on eradicating it's history for the benefit of money. I pray the museum continues on.

It just seems that a lot of history (mostly history glorifying God and Patriotism) and meaningful art has been eradicated these last few years.... Even current TV shows, movies, music ain't even worth flushing down the crapper. I dont think it's a generational or age issue ether....

Money talks and the "major national retailer" has spoken. I hope you and your associates find an alternative Jeff. American history is being re-written at an alarming rate by the PC crowd. Be comforted that if a man identifies as a woman on any given day he can piss in the girls bathroom.

Well shoot that blows! Lin and I do quite a bit of volunteer work for the Conifer Historical Society and Museum. The school board pretty much just donated the 1920s school to us. They kept the water rights. (A big deal in Colorado!) Maybe there is a public building that the public infrastructure can't use anymore that they could lease to the military museum for a buck? an old highway utility shop or something? Team up with another museum and put up a militray exhibit for a couple of months to buy some time? The next event we're hosting at the "Little White School House" is "Custer, Into the West." with Author Jeff Broome. Sir Leaker would love it. coniferhistoricalsociety.org/

Thanks everyone - I'd had loved to host a jeep meet. And good on you, Sir Rudy. Important stuff you and yours do, the preservation of history. I've gotten to love this raggedy little museum. Been involved with it since the first time I went in, guess my 15-year-old was barely a toddler at the time. We've been through this before, but ironically it was the mall that came to our rescue last time. The former manager was former military .. not the case anymore - the young lady is pretty dismissive over the whole thing. We do have high hopes, that at some point in future we will find a home. Since this morning I have heard from my Ron Burgundy at Channel 4, ((LOL)) AND I just talked to the reporter who's been assigned the story. Several members of the Board will meet her to share our plight .. not sure i will make it, but no one wants to see that! The mall wants us out by June 15, no exceptions, but they are giving us a storage spot to "to help us" [get the Ford out of the way!].
Will post updates - got guys with commercial real estate ties making calls, veterans groups, etc. and even Ol Haines is burning up his phone line calling his buddy Joe ... can't hurt. Keep those positive vibes coming! You too Bob, though that's not exactly what I meant.

Sorry Jeff. "Progress" is not always progress. Money is the controling factor. Can you consolidate in with another museum? Heck, the insurance industry is moving into banks. Next thng you know the Lawyers and Doctors will be at the bank also. They all seem to work together anyway. Save on fuel ya know! Oilly

It's been said many many times, "When History is Forgotten it Repeats Itself" ...... So very true. Jeff I am sure it will work out, just a bump in the road, and remember sometimes change has a bright out coming and this may lead to a better fit.. Many thanks to your volunteering, the hard work of the Rudy's and the Jeffs of this world make it an interesting place.
