Short Round and I went to represent and and fellowship with WWII and other veterans at The National D-Day Memorial. It was a fun 140 mile round trip drive with no incidents. A nice cool day with some overcast so I did not get that dreaded garrison cap sunburn line on my forehead I usually do. Showing up to the memorial in the morning around 0845. Bernard L. Marie talking to the Boy Scouts about Normandy. Bernard L. Marie was a boy of 5 years old in Normandy when the invasion happened. He is instrumental in getting the highest French award for U.S. Veterans that fought in France. I was also next to General Omar Bradley's tent. His jeep and driver. She only learned to drive stick today in a WWII jeep. I got to drive it as well yesterday. For a worn as the clutch was and transmission and loose steering, she did amazingly well.

Inside the meet the veterans tent. They each had a display of artifacts and photos of their time in service. Some had books of which I had already purchased and read and of course had signed. Capt. Russ Robinson, pilot of B-24 Arrowhead. He flew 34 missions and brought his crew back safely from each one. He also dropped blankets and food too my Mom during Operation Chow Hound and Manna. On one mission taking off in the fog he had to have his co-pilot look out the window to watch the side of the runway as he had to keep an eye on the instruments. One tap was for left and two for right. As they were prepared to take off a large explosion and fireball erupted. Two planes hit each other and exploded. He got the go an off they went getting up safely but through the flames of the two downed bombers. Dallas Bowman was a B-29 pilot in the Pacific shortly before the end of the war. The U.S. had just dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Japanese still did not surrender. His group took off and dropped their bombs on Japan and they surrendered the next day. He wad promoted to Capt one day before his service ended. Norman Pedigo was supposed to be there. He is the Flying Tiger I did the P-40 model for. His daughter asked if I could pick him up from the retirement home. Need she ask twice? I think not. An honor again. So off I went. Norman was actually assigned to the 8th Air Force but got sick before shipped out. He told me none of his group made it back. After he got better they shipped him out to the pacific to the Flying Tigers. He was crew and gunner on a B-25. He also drove trucks over the Burma Highway.

How wonderful you got to see your friend Mr. Pedigo again. I don't remember you posting any fotos of the P40 model presentation to Norman. If you did in fact get fotos please post 'em up, I'd love to see 'em and others would too. The volunteer work you do on behalf of Vets is priceless..

that's great work - if you have shots from all sides, I'd enjoy seeing them. Don't make a special effort-I just love seeing what you can do with fine detail work. That was always my downfall, and why my models always end up smouldering hunks of goo.

Beautiful. The only thing missing is some exhaust black behind the pipes. Oilly

Yeah good point Rick - can't wait to see Norm's face when he sees that! As my 106th buddy John used to say, "Hand Salute"!
