What should I use when I put this back together? The felt ring shown in the previous pics with no rubber gasket or this one:

I like the rubber ones. I would soak it in gear oil before installeing so it's lubed. Any findings or leak source thoughts? Oilly

I think I found the culprit. Looks like I need to seek out a new snap ring. Hopefully I have an old one intact in the junk bin somewhere.

I don't know why I didn't mention the snap ring deal. The bearing I got in my kit was way too wide also and I had to use the one from the old bearing. It was in good condition. Then the output housing fit down snug as it should.

I just scrounged up the old ring. Here's the difference in thickness. Installed the old ring and the bearing retainer fits much tighter. That had to be it. I can't decide if I want a happy face here or an angry one

I'm annoyed that I did not notice the snap ring problem when I installed this the first time. One of the retainer bolts was a little difficult to thread in which was odd but now makes sense. And I guess with the gasket and the sealant the gap between the retainer and transmission face did not appear as obvious. Still a dumb thing to miss either way....

I test fitted a few different gaskets and noticed a gap no matter what gasket I used and then notices why, the snap ring was holding the output housing out. I do believe that will solve your problem.

Wow! That is a huge difference. (Literally!)
I don't goof with T90s, but next time I am in a T84...or when Jeff tackles his in the next few months...I will pay attention. Any of the other CJ forums mention thus retainer clip issue?

Any of the other CJ forums mention thus retainer clip issue? Yes. BrianJ (was active here for a short while...) had the same problem and posted about it on the 2A page. His fix was a thicker gasket but I don't think even that would solve my issue. Correct size snap ring is the onluy way to go here. www.thecj2apage.com/forums/t90-still-leaking-with-sealed-bearing_topic35401_page1.html

Correct me if I am wrong (that NEVER happens), but HG was starting a wall of shame for Chi-Com shit parts and we were to send everything to him.

I actually have that very snap ring. It looks more like a piston ring. It came in a Omix Ada marked plastic bag. That brand name brings chills to my spine. Oilly

Oilly I couldn't remember how mine was packaged. I thought maybe it came with the bearing and since these bearings can have a wide array of applications I didn't want to flame the manufacturer since they wouldn't know what the end use would be. I was more disappointed with the vendor for not knowing better....
