E Pay has condensors NOS in the original box. You used to just go out to the junk yard and take one for free. They were junk to them. Not so anymore. They are all gone. I miss the good old days. Looking in the mirror and thinking about this re-inforces the thought---------it's time to go play and Jeep as much as possible. Oilly Scott, there are some simple tests you can run on a coil with a multimeter. I can't recall them...I always have to search for a post made by the professor to figure it out. lol Oilly...will any old condenser work or were they manufactured for specific vehicles back in the day. Just curious in case I come across a stash somewhere.

ODie and Whitey both have Autolite...Made in the USA coils. Both are internally resisted. I have no idea how old they are, but both have worked flawlessly. My 2A has a new Echlin 12v with interior resistor from NAPA...IC14. (Same as my spares) This one works, but I have only driven this Willys a few times around the neighborhood.
I have the same bad experience with the condensers. First one I ever swapped out was bad...right out of the box. Put the old one back in. It's still in there...doing its thing.

I will add...
Troubleshooting an issue really sucks when a new part is a dud. Turns the session into a real crap shoot.
I know we all get on these occasional rants, but how much more time, effort and money does it take to make a good part vs. a marginal part? A few pennies? An extra minute and a half? One Quality Assurance guy checking these things before shipping? Maybe I'm over simplifying it, but it just doesn't seem to be rocket science.

SAME DANMED COIL!! NOTHING MADE HERE ANYMORE, GAVE ALL OUR TECHONOLGY AWAY! Hell, it doesn't matter anyways, we don't have a workforce to support it. Graduate high school these days and all you learned is how to play with your pecker and the gooberment owes you a check. I was going to say something snide about the Chi-Coms, but unfortunately, they ultimately own the company I work for, although it's a local/family managed operation, the Chi-Coms have the big check book.

Gary, who owns the administration? Wonder why they fear the Donald? They might lose their paycheck.

Hmmm....I detect a tone from Gary's comment. He rarely gets wound up, but I felt myself ducking for cover! At the same time, I agree with every word. These are the kids that are supporting Bernie. They have no idea how the real world works. I hope they wake up...or they will be in a world of hurt. Tim

They WILL wake up and they WILL be in a world of hurt. The few smart, strong ones will succeed. The rest will clamor for more freebies from the Guvmint.

Does anyone have specs on. Low and high end Ohm readings correct for the 6 volt coils?

They have no idea how the real world works. I hope they wake up...or they will be in a world of hurt. Tim Ha! That's was the fourth version, the first one was....... Let's just say, to the point. Be aware I'm going to climb on my soap box now and vent..... It really is a sore subject with me. The more I study early to mid twentieth century American history and technology, the more irked I become. Take for instance, these jeeps, old tractors, trucks, early tube radios, telephones, power plants, etc Build by men and women who used their brains, hands and their GOD given talent without the aid of AutoCad, calculators and Google. They changed the face of this country, the world and did it rapidly. From the middle of the nineteenth century until just recently, the American standard of living DOUBLED each generation. The year my Grandfather was born "Lucky Lindy" flew across the Atlantic, a short 42 years later, man walked in the moon. In Between, Americans fought a depression, fought a war, and built the biggest economic powerhouse this world has ever seen. 50 plus years later, what have we done? I've made mention before, I'm one out of 4 maintance techicains on my shift at a small semi conductor operation. 90% of the operators are in their twenties. There are a few young ladies that try to do their best and learn... bur there's hardly any young men that are worth killing. Lazy, and always bitching that they don't get paid enough when they don't do their job to begin with. I gurantee you most of them couldn't change a flat tire if they had to, much less change oil or even reset a tripped circuit breaker, and don't care to know any better. The art of Manliness is disappearing. Most just seem to knock up equally useless females to make more babies that the taxpayer has to foot the bill for, heaven forbid that they would have to man up and think about something else beside them and where their pecker goes and the responsibility that goes with it. I find it amazing that we are fortune enough to live in a period of history that when a person wants to do a little research, all they have to do is pick up a phone. You don't have to worry about a library card or driving there. To me the thrill of learning is destroyed by powers at be, the dumber you are, the easier it is to control. Hell, just look at the History and Discovery channels, at one time they actually showed programs that taught, now it's the most asinine, useless "reality" type shows. We have information at our finger tips, and people choose not to use it. Don't think, just set in front of the idiot box and drool on yourself..... I would love America to be great again, but it's going to take more than just one man in DC to do it. To much knowledge has been lost. God help us. EDIT: To clarify the last paragraph, the man in DC sets the tone, so to speak. We need a man who wants to make us great again, not one that wants to drag us down..... but it's going to take all of us. We have to start uplifting our best and brightest of all walks of life, like we did in the past. Instead of using our best and brightest to support the sluggards under the guise of political correctness and so called equality. Give them an environment to succede and get the hell out of the way. They will succeed!

I found this on the G, written by Cuz. He has helped me many many moons ago when I had an M37 (pre HG daze). These numbers are different, but in the same ballpark. "9-Inspect coil for cracks, leakage and corroded terminals (primary and secondary). Remove all wires. With an ohm meter check the resistance of the primary circuit (about 0.5 to 1.8) then check secondary coil resistance (depending on coil model 8,000 to 16,000 ohms). Now warm the coil with a heat gun until it is uncomfortable to hang onto and check resistances again." I've got a heat gun, HG. Come and get. I dare you to drive the bridge again. Oh, I use the heat gun to straighten the old hickory shafts. I've got a doozy I've been massaging with heat all week. And to what Gary said-

I see nothing wrong with your methods in the video. For grins, I just measured the coil on my jeep.
It's a Made in USA, Standard brand UC15 12v no resistor required coil. Purchased circa 2003. Measured with a Fluke 87 DMM three times each.
Primary: 3.0 ohms
Secondary: 8.23k ohms
On the same note,
Right when I started my current job, the parent corporation asked one of our engineers (brilliant, very nice man) to go to a plant in China to help with some quality issues. He stayed for little bit, observed what was going on, made some recommendations to help, nothing big or expensive, just some procedure changes. They refused to do it. He came home.

And I will tell you why they refused. They know there is an Army of folks just like us out there that care. Want to work, and care about what we do. You have to have the parts . And the play is to make you buy 3 !!! Fers!!!

Gentlemen. Starting with the Woodrow Wilson administration, and some would say as far back as Teddy R., over the last close to 100 years, this country has been changing. In most cases, not for the better. As a result, Washington, DC and to a lesser extent, but no better intent, our state capitols have been slowly taken over by those who believe they know what’s best for us all. God save us from the Sheldons of this world.
