I want a metal lathe. I've done some metal work on my Delta which wasn't fun but worked. I just wish I had someone to show me the ins and outs of doing the metal work.

My dad and grandfather each owned their own machine shop. Grand dad got his start working for Vlchek before WW2. When my dad branched out into his own business, he retwired our garage to accommodate two milling machines and a lathe. I did piddly jobs for him back then, but I was never really interested. Typical teenager. I wish I had been more active. He has since retired. A few months ago, he gave me all of his specialized tools. He tried to sell them, but none of the younger guys wanted them...all of the computers did that sort of legwork for them.
Cool lathe, Lee.

I grew up with a lathe, my dad was a master tool & die maker. He had an Atlas lathe at home ( I still have it), he was also a gunsmith and repaired clocks. Lathes always fascinated me, by the time I was in hi school I was pretty well versed on a lathe. In metal shop in school one of our projects was making a small vise, this required most of the machine tools in the shop, a shaper, mill, lathe, drill press, ect. As we progressed through the project the lead screw of the vise was made in the lathe and threaded with a die, I asked the teacher why we did not turn the lead screw in the lathe, he said because he had no idea how to do it, so I taught him.... A great guy, I still see him in town from time to time and he always brings the thread cutting up, he is in his late 80's, LOL....... This will be a big asset to my hobbies, a Bridgeport mill or like model is next!.

Sounds like you, your dad, my dad and his dad are all from the same cloth. When he was dropping off his monstrosity of a tool box to me, I had him go through all the drawers and explain to me what the stuff was for. Deer in headlights and crickets chirping from me. It all made sense while he was standing there....lol.

Very nice find. I'm always amazed at what a person can do with a lathe and milling machine. No need for parts. Just time and materials and know how. Custom by Captain.

Cap'n what are your plans with that beast? I love watching the guys on Mythbusters make whatever they needed with metal lathes, and the guy from whom I bought my Lucille had a full shop in his basement ... He made a lot of parts he needed. I just want to see some custom-made Leemeister Industries products!

When my Bro passed away, in his shop were the M38 and his Grizzly lathe/mill. I got the M38 out of there post haste but the lawyers and bankers decended on the place before I could get the Grizzly out of there. I regret that, not that I have a clue how to use it but his hands had done some fine work with it.

Very cool Lee. I probably couldn't even figure out how to turn that machine on let alone do anything useful with it.

As of this morning no package. However, the postal carrier here has been know to leave them hidden in random places around my property with no clue as to where they might be or even that they delivered anything at all. It could very well be here but may take me months to actually find it.
