Hay to all, I am from central ohio close to cowlumbus. I recently purchased my dads cj3a. He bought 2 jeeps in the mid fiftys and made 1. mostly it is a 49, with a sears, robuck motor and thats about it, besides all the fun memories. Oh ya it had not been started or driven for the last dozen years and he left alot of wires disconnected trying to get it to run! Sound like a project Glad to be here jp4ever

Welcome aboard! I think you have joined at the exact right moment. Pascal is new to us as of yesterday and I think he is deep into CJ3As. He might be a huge resource for you.
Sounds like a great project. Family jeeps are kind of sacred around here.

Welcome from South Dakota! Family Jeeps are special. None in mine, but from me, well now there is. Can you fill us in on how/where Sears had replacement engines? I remember parts and catalogs, but not engines. John

Rickg, my location is in the first sentence. Mama didnt give me that handle, but since the jp. was around before me, and i have dated my wife since we were 16,married for 29 yrs soon... well her initials mite be jp so jp4ever seems pretty damn good to me.
benthere thank you.
Oilleaker1, I forget which jp. had that motor, Dad said it was from S+R, a quick google led me to the cj2a page and wiki, so not much help there. It has allstate stamped on the head and all tags, numbers are gone Sorry. It is nice to have a family jeep, I think I actually got it because my daughter tried to 'buy it'. Dad had always said he would never sell it, so I thought it would become an estate item.. I try not to work on it much without her help because in a way its already Hers. My other daughter doesnt have the jp. bug! loren

The Captian, funny thing is, it never was a willis or willeees...just Nellie or old Nel if it was broke, but we always said willees.
Dad was in the Korean conflict, so i dont know if that is were Nellie and willeese came from? I always thought it was odd he called it Nellie because that was his mothers name.

JP, to be sure the family jeep link ties us firmly to who we were and who we will become. My M38 was purchased by my late brother and I when he came home from VN back in '70. Again, welcome aboard! Muley.
PS: nice foto. Has "patina".

I think I’m just going to chalk this up to “local colloquialisms” and let it go at that. Sheesh.

Glad to have you here! In Columbus OH there is German Village. In German village there is a statue. The name in it means a lot to me. Do you know if the one I am talking about.? I have been many times to Columbus, love it!

Possible that the name Nel or Nellie came from Roy Roger's famous Jeep : Nelly Belle. A grey colored armored looking affair. When I hear Ohio, I remember Buckeyes or the Buckeye Tree that has large black seed pods. When peeled they must have looked like eyes from a deer I guess. Used to have one in our yard as a kid growing up in Cedar Rapids Iowa.

Oilleaker1 That would make sense dad liked RR and Marilyn Monroe
Oh bye the way I am not an OHIO fan or any sports, more into jps jp4ever
