I was invited to my first reenactment at the Historic Latta Plantation, NC. What a blast. I will be doing it again. Felt like I was back in the army. Living in tents in the field the whole time. Eating in field mess out of mess kits and canteen cups. And of course sharing songs, beer, schnapps, moonshine and stories. That's the life. But...picking up wounded solders over 250lbs and trying to lift them on the jeep. Never again. They are just going to have to die. I was so tired when I got home. The 40 minute battle was intense. The Germans overran us. Probably because they had no medics or field hospital or vehicle to transport so they couldn't afford to die. Moosey and Jeff, you guys really missed out. Hella good time. Hahahahahaha...been there, done that! The few times I've been there, I've spent my time doing general preventative maintenance items on my jeep using my old tools. I paired up with a second keeper that had a massive trailer that opened up like a big table and had a generator in the front. We used that as the focal point of our forward motor pool. I disassembled a T90 for messy giggles. During the down times, I slept under the jeep, in true sad sack fashion. Our squad did a little fun and games with some old gloves, a bat and a ball. We couldn't ever persuade those 250 pounder airborne guys to have an impromptu game. They do events at Latta a few times a year. Hopefully I can catch the next one.

I'm glad you went - the organisers do a great job of getting the local shutternuts to take great photos. You can have some real fun with B/W and sepia filters on those high-res ones, too. Matt Waisner, the education coordinator at the plantation is an old Brit comrade and helluva nice guy. They do the event right by basically letting the troops figure out their own deal, and they've done it so many times it just works. The meals in the field is a great touch, and the public displays are usually pretty entertaining and informative, with the right guys at the helm. We've got a buddy that lived about 15 minutes from there who lets us crash, when/if we can ever make it. I look forward to going, but something usually gets in the way .. ain't life grand. I can't wait til my oldest wants to geek out with me - THEN I'll make him ask mom if we can go! HA HA HA
