In the 24V M38 world our IAU-4006UT waterproof dizzys have an internal radio noise filter capacitor. This filter is not needed unless you're running early non-shielded radios. This capacitor can short open cutting power to the coil, or short to the case letting all the smoke out of your wires. An accepted bypass mod is shown below. I'll carry the bypass unit in my trail repair kit along with my lucky nut. Attachments:

If you study what they did to quiet down WW2 radio sets, all the grounding straps and tinned surface points, it's crazy. Then along comes a guy that trys a capacitor and all that grounding stuff is worthless. Isn't a capacitor the same thing as a condensor? Like your distributor has? Gary? We need more electrical training here. Oilly
