Short and sweet - got my head decked and I assumed that it was also cleaned. Well, turns out I might have assumed too much, AND of course I was to F-scripting stupid to ask any questions at the time. Can do tomorrow, but for now -in hopes I can sleep tonight- I have this question.
You may recall that eons ago I was pondering the best way to clean the greasy funk in the cooling system. I ran the SuperDouche through several times, and though cleaner than it had been in the past I knew that it couldn't possibly have been as good as it needed to be. I mean, this is ME we're talking about.
Fast forward to just a while ago. I decided to come home and fiddle with the jeep instead of the work I had to do. Quick trip to the auto mart 'cos I am too dumb to get everything at once, back to the house. Apply thread sealant, gasket goes on OK, and then the head. THIS is when bad things happen. As I tipped the head over to try and get the best angle to mount it, crumbs of what was left of the gunk in the head tumbled down into the cylinder. What the FORD! Panic, of course, takes over. I set the head aside, turn the crank to clean up the debris ( and of course I am just too damned dumb to not think there was MORE ) and try it again. Amazeballs! Same shit. Tools and insults flying, aside goes the head and I started to wonder how to clean it. Inside (wish I could post a pic) is some leftover gunk rubble, and scratching with a scribe will make it come off. One whole brake cleaner cap full after one series of scratching away ... NO WAY can I put this on, knowing that carp is in there. It'll put me back at square one faster than Schiller buys brass nuts!
{FINALLY} my question. Any good, better or best way to soak-clean this crap out of the head? Thoughts that came to me was to try white vinegar, Evapo-Rust or some similar solvent. Don't have any on hand. So, before wasting time, money and more effort I wanted to ask if any of y'all WAY more experienced actual mechanics know a secret which I can try to get this thing cleaned up. I just know that it's impossible to get at all the nooks and crannies in the head.
Poor Moosey, he's such a good sport, and always helpful. Thankfully he hasn't changed his phone number. YET. /Golden Girls theme/
