Knew Paul well. I can't begin to tell the favors he has done for me over the years. Called him some months ago to ask a couple of mundane questions. He answered them and then told me of his cancer. I blubbered. Last thing I said was I wished him peace. He said, "I'll have it soon, Jimbo".
We are diminished.

This is a fact. My skills were never sharpened more, and some most bonding friendships have been formed , Those of you who personally know me, and have followed my build, understand Exactley what I mean. There is always something good that comes from all adversity. If it didn't kill me, I am learning. It was said to me , by a good friend of mine. "When you are personally involved , it becomes personal" I like that. You know who you are. If all that happened in the past had not, I would not be able to even sit amongst the table and talk. For that I am thankful. There is going to be good things to follow. I have been informed of some most interesting developments that I am most excited about. All parts have educated me, and I have a damn nice tow rope. I am just glad to be a part.

I knew Paul as an energetic, brash, outspoken man. As a friend, he had few equals. Kyle is correct in that the more he liked you, the less expensive the parts became. He gave me a motor. He and I collaborated on a number of projects, all of which served to steer me into what I do now. Godspeed, Paul Dunn.

Altho I never got to meet Hillbilly face to face (my loss), our paths crossed many times over the years. Shortly after his diagnosis he posted FS a YS637 carb at basically full retail. I PM'd him on it and he came down just a little bit and I said well OK deal. He emailed me the payment info and I'm like "Paul this is only 1/2 price of what you were asking". His reply? Yep put it to good use. That kind of guy. Jimbo nailed it when he said "we are diminished".

RIP Friend. He was one of the main reasons "Short Round" is on the road. Called me out of the blue about parts he had and even sent me a few small freebees. Rest well.

Well, his suffering is now over. I used to call and talk with him. He shared his innermost feelings and was a like minded Jeep guy. Made me some deals. He liked the fact I was up early in the AM. Almost had him stop by when he was trucking, but it didn't work out. I'll miss him. John

Here's the facts, Paul Dunn was a complete and I believe medically habitual and in the context of the dictionary a compulsive LIAR. He told tales of all of his grandeur and Jeep knowledge. Yes he had parts, (who he conned them out of is another story) most of which he overrated and lied about. Everything I bought from him, was complete junk. My statement earlier about how I learned was because in a nice way, I had to fix all the BS he sold me. I was at the time non the wiser. He preyed on guys like me over the Internet, wishing to complete a project for honorable reasons . Most of you here are just too kind to tell the truth. The only reason I made that video was out of respect for Jon Georgi. A guy who Paul had fooled as well...to this day. So there you have it..... The only positive influence the man had in the flat fender world is that the connections I have now, that came about through his bullshit on the web. And all of you should know exactly what I mean.

This “hobby” in which each of us partakes is fraught with emotions. Especially for those whose plan is to honor a father, grandfather or uncle. Someone we trusted implicitly and respected very highly. Emotions can and do cloud our judgement. For better or worse, each of us brings a certain level of knowledge and expertise to the projects we undertake. We are all truly fortunate when we stumble across an individual or an organized group of fellow enthusiasts, more knowledgeable and experienced, whom we risk our trust upon. That trust takes time within the groups we occupy. Some need it more than others and one-on-one dealings require faster decisions on the perceived reliability of the person with whom we are dealing. Some wish to be respected leaders of those groups. Some are truly respectable, and knowledgeable enough to assume those leadership positions. But trust and respect are fleeting, especially when hastily given with no perception of reciprocity. Here in this electronic world it is easy to misinterpret a few words taken out of context. Relationships can be just as easily destroyed as they are made. I admit that my friendship with Paul evaporated over a business transaction. But our mutual respect had been waning up to that point. I think each of us lost a great deal. Is this self-serving? I don’t know. Paul is gone now. I will let it rest as I personally intend to speak or write no more on this matter.
