Greetings from the home of "Stonewall" Jackson, gentlemen. I was referred to this board by its fearless leader, Scott. I was the proud owner of a real, honest to god 1949 Cj2a in and about the late 2000's while attending the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Unfortunately our affair was brief and she was stolen away by some deviant soul. I have searched in vain for her over the past 8 years or so with nary a clue to her whereabouts. I'm not sure if Scott ever posted the details of her physique but she was of grey complexion with a well worn white top(no doors, oh la la!), an (odd) fiery v6, Saginaw steering to hug those tight curves, manual...EVERYTHING, and some generic, but timeless black steelie wrapped in 31" AT shoes. If any of you fellas have any knowledge of this sultry lass, I deeply desire to rekindle our romance. A romance that I would equally enjoy sharing all the juicy details of with all of you oh yeah and the serial number is 223788. Thanks guys

Sorry you were defiled by man kind. I've been there and done that when my '69 Jag roadster was stolen in Denver Colo. the night before I was to drive home in it. Left standing in the rain on a monday morning, empty parking space. Did you know without the license number, or vin number, law enforcement will not help you? Guess where all that info. was. Anyway, I hope it turns up some day when someone trys to get a title for it. You may get it back. While you are waiting, my advice is to get another. It will help heal your pain. We will also give you pain here! Welcome. Oilly

Glad to have you back. It's all about the BS here. However, it's not. The most talented and sincere Vintage Jeep owners reside. In all the BS, you will find the most interesting things. Question is are you willing to look. It's all here at your finger tips.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. I'm not familiar with 770, but then again I'm a turn at the dilapidated barn/wine berry bramble/ penecostal church kinda guy when it comes to getting around the Appalachia. Waders are def on, I was just looking at one of the posts about all the different olive drabs used by the military over the years and I can only imagine that's the tip of the iceberg. Scott, I'll definitely be looking, but prob on a more peripheral basis until the looking to find the jeep is actually complete. Speaking of I've spent about 10 hours over the past few days searching forums, archives, etc and came upon some useful info in my search. I got in touch with the gentleman who sold me the jeep on eBay after recovering my old email account from college and he is hopefully sending me some pictures of the jeep this evening that I'll will be able to post for you all. I then got in touch with the city of Columbia requesting a copy of my police report any any info pertaining to vehicles fitting my description that may have been towed from private property around the end of 2007. All I got was a message service, but hopefully they will have something when my call is returned. Then I had the bright idea to find out who owned the property the jeep disappeared from. It took a bit of digging but I discovered a property management firm in Charlotte, NC that were listed as the owners. A few phone calls and friendly secretary's later and I was speaking with the woman who not only managed the property, but was the one doing so when my jeep disappeared. She said no vehicles are or ever have been towed from that lot without first contacting the city of Columbia PD. So if that is true and my police report was actually filed, then somebody over there effed up and hopefully my inquiry can provide some insight. After that I phoned every towing service listed on google in Columbia inquiring about wether they had ever ended up with an old grey CJ on their lot back then( I did this at the time, but figured since I'm on a kick I'd double check) and surprisingly every tow yard had people there today that were there in 2007 and no one had record or recollection of it ever being on their lot. One helpful gentleman suggested inquiring with the SC highway department on whether any 1949 CJ-2a's had been issued abandoned titles, which I did, and there hadn't. Also no activity on the serial number. The woman at the highway department suggested I contact Illinois because any inquiry on the serial number would go back to the state where the last title was issued from. So I called the Illinois highway department and they not only had no record of the serial number, but no record of the title number either! As befouled as I was, I decided to search the name and address on the title( not the guy I bought it from. He never registered the jeep and said he purchased it off a used car lot owned by a friend. Hopefully I will get this info tonight as well) in Google. Lo and behold the house is for sale. So I call the realtor and explain my situation and he calls the owner and says that she's lived in the house for decades and that the address is for an upstairs apartment. She claims to never have had a gentleman by the name listed on the title living there, but a former tenant let someone live with him off the lease and it could very well have been the jeeps previous owner. So I get the number to the place this previous tenant works and unfortunately he had left for the day already, but they took my info and are passing it on to him when he comes in tomorrow. So, yeah, that's what my reinvigorated search has unearthed. I left out some details and nothing has produced concrete leads yet, but it's all interesting and exciting and it feels cool to pretend to be Dick Tracy, hunting down the answers!

Greetings and salutations from Conifer, CO, Unibuddy. We'll keep our eyes open for your old bucket. It would be interesting to get it back. I *kinda* remember a beat down black/gray titleless CJ2a with a white top on Denver craigslist within the last year or so, but that's really not enough to go on. For now it is a shot in the dark. Maybe the internet wayback machine can help? archive.org/web/

Do you remember if the cj you saw had an engine swap or not? I tried the way back machine but was having trouble getting it to work like I hoped. Any advice for searching on it?

Going West out of Lexington, from Google Maps:
Take VA-251 N to State Rte 770 in Kerrs Creek 21 min (11.6 mi) Continue on State Rte 770 to Sharon 34 min (11.6 mi) Take I-64 E to Conner Ln 18 min (15.4 mi) Turn left onto Conner Ln 1 min (0.1 mi) Longdale Furnace, VA
This is the old Buffalo Trace, Indian path and one of the first roads West from Lexington. A beautiful drive once you start going up the mountain. Once you get to I64, Lexington is only about a half hour drive on the interstate... or another hour and a half if you want to enjoy the scenery on the way back!

I Do know that road. 770 is the original road to Covington. I was out hunting deer just this afternoon on property that boarders that Rd. As soon as I get the rest of the ignition gremlins in my CJ6 sorted out, I'll be heading out for a nice little cruise! Thanks for the route

Part of my last is bogus. 251 doesn't go to Kerrs Creek. You turn off at a village called Collierstown. I didn't catch that when I cut and pasted from GM. Neat road!

Advise you NOT take your new CJ5 up 770 until you make sure everything is up to snuff. Best I remember that road has no guard rails, but does have a whole lot of straight down! Post pics of your new buggy when you can.
